"I… That's not what she said!" I reached out to Caius, trying to grab his hand. I could only hope that being Caius's fated mate meant he still had some kindness and mercy for me. "Caius, you have to believe me!"
"You dare to order me around?" Caius snarled, more incensed with anger.
I gulped, realizing I had misspoken. But before I could apologize, he grabbed my wrist so harshly I thought he wrenched my arm from my shoulder. He hauled it under the light.
The faint brownish tinge underneath my nails was unmistakable.
Yvette's dried blood was literally on my hands.
"Not only did you shove her into a wall and destroy her dress, you even dared to lay a hand on her!" Caius roared out. "She did nothing but try to help you! And you're still trying to look for excuses?"
I met Caius's eyes. "She was taunting me," I said, tears in my eyes. "She―"
