Waking up felt profoundly unnatural, as though I had been violently wrenched from the crushing depths of a freezing, lightless ocean after drowning for an eternity.
For several disorienting seconds, my body refused to obey even the simplest commands. Every limb felt impossibly heavy, sluggish, and strangely alien beneath my own will. A dull, persistent ache throbbed behind my eyes, while a sharper, more vicious pain pulsed along the side of my neck where the hooded entity had struck me with merciless force. My thoughts were fragmented, scattered like shards of glass across a storm-tossed sea.
The deepest, most consuming slumber of my entire life.
That was the only way to describe it... an abyss so complete it had swallowed me whole and nearly refused to release me.
