Luna Nash was a bit stunned. Jane Sterling sighed, her brows knitting together.
"Alright, stop. I know what's going on."
"What's going on?!" the three of them asked in unison.
Just as Jane Sterling was about to speak, all she heard was a CRACK… CRACK…
A series of strange cracking sounds rang out one after another. Jane Sterling froze, quickly raising a hand to signal for everyone to be quiet.
Once everything was silent again, that bizarre cracking sound only grew louder and louder.
Jane's expression turned grim. By now, it wasn't just Jane who heard it; Joy Fischer had clearly heard it too.
Her voice trembled. "Wh-what is that sound?"
Luna Nash realized something was wrong. Susan Quinn, her finger trembling and voice choked with sobs, pointed at the girl at the bottom of the stairs.
"Listen… is that where the sound is coming from?"
Down in the darkness, the girl, her face impossible to make out, was slowly moving her neck.
