She frantically opened her phone and checked her balance.
[Balance: 0]
What?!
Where did her 2,600 go?!
How could it just vanish overnight?!
She looked at the system before her, and all the fight went out of her.
She put down her phone and approached the system. Her tone softened, and a placating smile spread across her face.
"Hey, kiddo—oh, no! Great System! Boss! I was wrong, okay? Can't you just accept that I was wrong? Please give me back my 2,600. If I don't have it, I'll seriously end up homeless."
"Just think about it. If I'm sleeping on the streets, I'll get sick. I'll catch a cold, run a fever, and then I won't be able to complete my missions properly. You wouldn't want me to hold up your work, would you...?"
Jane Sterling put on a pitiful expression, staring pleadingly at the little boy before her.
Seeing her act this way, he rested his chin on a chubby hand and pondered. 'She has a point.' He shot her a haughty glance.
"Fine. I'll let it slide this time. But if you ever dare disrespect this system again..."
"I won't, I won't! It'll never happen again!"
Jane held up three fingers as if making a vow. Just then, the little boy raised his chubby little hand again and snapped his fingers.
Jane's face lit up. She quickly pulled out her phone and refreshed her balance.
[Balance: 2,600]
'Whoa, amazing!'
'It's back!'
Jane hugged her phone, a goofy grin on her face. Then, she looked back at the little boy.
"What should I call you?"
"You can call me Bianca."
He continued, "You are now an official Yin Yang Deliveryman, operating under this system. That makes you my subordinate, and I am your direct supervisor."
"Your mission is to take objects from clients and deliver them to their intended recipients, just like the deliverymen in your Mortal Realm."
"The only difference is that the pay is many, many times better."
"The more missions you complete and the more five-star ratings you receive, the more benefits I, as your direct supervisor, get to enjoy."
"So, the two of us are in the same boat now. When I prosper, you prosper."
Jane was washing up in the hotel room, with Bianca chattering incessantly beside her. He stood on the toilet lid like a miniature adult, prattling on and on.
Jane was beginning to understand. It turned out that not just anyone could get a Yin Yang System.
She was simply the one chosen by fate.
"So you must cherish this hard-won opportunity. It has the potential to change your destiny, you know?"
Bianca was still lecturing her with a stern expression, and Jane found herself staring at his pudgy little face.
'What a shame,' she thought. 'If Bianca weren't just a projection, I'd love to give those chubby cheeks a good squish. They must be so soft.'
As a Yin Yang Deliveryman who walked the line between both worlds, she could now see all the supernatural beings in the Mortal Realm.
She even had her own territory. When Bianca mentioned this, a strange glint appeared in his eyes.
Jane didn't understand the meaning behind his expression just yet.
It wasn't until the two of them stood before a derelict package pickup station on the Aethelgard University campus that Jane finally understood the reason for Bianca's sheepish expression.
She gazed at the station, which was draped in cobwebs and looked as if it had been abandoned for a millennium. Then, she turned to Bianca in utter disbelief.
"This is the 'territory' you were talking about?! It looks like it's been abandoned for ages! Is this thing even usable?!"
A somewhat forced expression appeared on Bianca's face.
"It's usable, it's usable! It'll be fine after a little cleaning. Don't underestimate this rundown station. It took several million M-Coins to acquire it, you know."
"Several million?!"
Jane's eyes widened in disbelief.
"You little squirt, don't tell me you got scammed!"
"Hm?"
Bianca shot her an icy glare, and Jane immediately clamped her mouth shut.
Dejected, she pushed her way through a patch of overgrown bushes to the side of the pickup station, which looked more like a public restroom.
She glanced at the rusty lock on the door, then turned to Bianca with a helpless sigh.
"How am I supposed to open this?"
Bianca shot Jane a look one might give to a complete idiot.
He then made a delicate pinching gesture with his little hand and snapped his fingers. The lock clattered to the ground.
Jane's eyes went wide as dinner plates. "Whoa, you're amazing!"
Bianca proudly puffed out his little chest. After Jane removed the lock, she pushed open the decrepit door.
The inside was completely empty; there was nothing there.
However, it wasn't nearly as filthy as Jane had imagined.
In fact, it was surprisingly clean. With a little tidying up, it would be ready for use.
Bianca stood on a desk inside, gesturing grandly as if he were a general surveying his domain.
"From now on, this place will serve as your waystation. If clients want to find you, they'll come here. However..."
Bianca paused, casting a sympathetic glance at Jane.
"Given that you've activated the system, your eyes can now perceive all the world's supernatural entities. This includes, but is not limited to, ghosts, sprites, and yaoguai. You'll have to determine what these individuals are for yourself."
"But rest assured, this system has a client-vetting process. Anyone who is able to come here and make a request has already had their file reviewed by me. They won't bring any harm to your life. As for what form they might appear in... well, that's another story."
The moment Jane heard that, goosebumps erupted all over her skin again.
"Could you not say that right now?!"
A bone-chilling draft filled the pickup station. Even though it was summer, she felt goosebumps prickle her calves.
She heaved a sigh of resignation and once again began to take stock of her surroundings.
The pickup station wasn't very big, but off to one side was a small, surprisingly spacious partitioned room.
Jane rubbed her chin. 'Maybe I could stay here for a while.'
'After all, I only have a little over 2,000 right now. I can't just keep living in a hotel, can I?'
'The hotel costs 400 a night, which means I can only afford to stay for six more days.'
'But my summer break is three months long. There's no way I can make this last.'
"Bianca, can I live here?"
Jane looked at Bianca, her eyes full of hope.
Bianca considered it for a moment, then gave a slight nod.
"This place is already yours. What you do with it is your own business."
Jane stomped her foot in delight. "That's great! My living situation is sorted!"
All that was left was to go home while Charles Sterling and Sharon Shelby were out, pack her things, and finally move out of that house.
Just thinking about it made her a little excited.
Bianca yawned off to the side.
"Alright, I've brought you here. I'm going back to rest. Don't call me unless you have a good reason."
Before Jane could even respond, Bianca vanished in the blink of an eye.
