Nathan Lockwood gave Zoe Pierce a deep look. Meeting her intense stare, he said, "No."
Zoe Pierce froze for a moment, then immediately looked at Nathan Lockwood in disbelief. "You said you would."
'He's still denying it, even now?'
Nathan said, "What I said was, let's make a deal."
"You cooperate with us and finish the tournament, and I'll tell you about Damien Pierce."
He had never explicitly promised it.
Zoe was so angry she could have laughed. 'This guy is twisting the truth.'
Seemingly sensing her raised eyebrow, Nathan added, "You've always done an excellent job."
'We were the ones who were scheming.'
"But now, you don't have to be so perfect," Nathan said suddenly, looking at Zoe. "You can rely on us once in a while."
Zoe's pace slowed. "Is that so?"
Nathan drew a little closer, their shoulders nearly touching. "It doesn't matter who it is—any one of us is fine. As long as it can make you happy, that's what's important."
