He acknowledged Mina Yates's defense of them, but at the same time, he thought Miles Sherman was a hypocrite.

Chase Shaw had no intention of using his spiritual power on Miles Sherman—it wouldn't have worked on him anyway. He just wanted Miles to realize he wasn't as high-and-mighty as he sounded.
Miles Sherman dodged several of his attacks in a row. Sparring was a common occurrence for teammates; sometimes, your teammates understood you better than you understood yourself.
A single glance or the slightest shift in posture was enough to predict the next move.
They had fought like this thousands of times over the years.
This was the only time, however, that the reason wasn't simply to spar.
