At six o'clock the next morning, Zane Jennings awoke. His fever had broken.
A young nurse entered with a bowl and set it down in front of him. "You're awake. This is the porridge Dr. Lowell made. You should eat it while it's hot."
It was yam porridge again.
Zane Jennings checked the time on his phone, then scanned the room. "Where is she?"
The young nurse was tidying up nearby. "She went to help at the rescue site."
Zane Jennings set the porridge aside, grabbed his jacket, and put it on as he headed for the door. "I'm going out for a bit."
"Dr. Lowell said you have to finish it."
He was already out the door but called back, "I'll drink it when I get back."
Zane Jennings searched the entire rescue area but couldn't find her. He asked the workers on-site, but no one had seen her arrive. He searched the surrounding area several more times, but there was still no sign of her.
As he was returning, he ran into someone at the entrance.
The man called out to him, "Mr. Jennings."
