Henry Stark was leading the response team this time.
Renee Jennings walked up to him, her brow furrowed. "Captain Stark, Mary is hurt. I have to take them to the vet first. Can I come to the station to give my statement a little later?"
Mary?
Henry Stark glanced at the two small birds in her arms. "Which one is Mary?"
Renee Jennings pointed to the slightly larger of the two.
"What's the other one's name?" Henry Stark asked.
Renee Jennings shook her head. "I don't know its name yet."
'How could she not be moved? A bird she didn't even know had risked its life to save her.'
Henry Stark nodded. "I hope they have a speedy recovery."
"Thank you." Renee Jennings gazed at the man's deep-set eyes. "I'll be going, then."
"Miss Jennings, wait," Henry Stark suddenly called out.
Renee Jennings thought he was about to refuse her request to take Mary and the other bird for treatment first. A hint of displeasure touched her delicate features.
