Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Divine Level Skill Evolution

Oh!

So this is the Otherworld's Profession Ritual.

'I can feel the power surging through my body!'

BOOM!

Dark clouds swirled in the sky, gathering in a vortex overhead. A fierce wind kicked up, and faint flashes of lightning swam within the clouds! The entire sky went completely dark!

'So this is the Profession Ritual.'

'It feels pretty magnificent, not ordinary at all. It's got that fantasy vibe, you know!'

Like Lu Cang, Kumironi also looked up.

"Oh my… this is quite rare."

Sensing the restlessness of the Elements, Iz also sat up from the ground. He glanced first at Kumironi, who was presiding over the Profession Ritual, then at the swirling clouds in the sky, a cheerful smile spreading across his face.

The temperature plummeted!

A winter-like cold instantly coated everything in a layer of white frost!

Kumironi's ring glowed faintly, and she pulled out a thick coat, draping it over Lu Cang.

"We can't do much to help you during the Profession Ritual, but you're not in any mortal danger. Just focus on feeling and try to control the power of the Elements."

Lu Cang did as Kumironi said.

'Please.'

'I hope I'm not some kind of idiot like Lu Mingfei who can't feel anything...'

Lu Cang closed his eyes.

But after he closed them, the world didn't grow dim.

Instead, it became even more tangible because of the Elements.

The freezing points of cold were the Element of Ice.

The formless flow was the Element of Wind.

The scorching glow was the Element of Fire.

The heavy aura was Earth and Land.

'This must be what they want me to feel.'

Following the flow of the Elements in his mind, Lu Cang gently raised his hand…

The countless dancing sparks of fire obeyed his command, gathering in the palm of his hand.

WHOOSH!

Lu Cang opened his eyes again.

He saw a ball of Flame condensing in his hand.

Seeing this, Iz's eyes lit up, his smile growing even wider.

And Kumironi covered her mouth in astonishment.

BANG!

As the Flame condensed, the Array under his feet dissipated.

But Lu Cang could also feel a power he had never felt before flowing within his body.

'Could it be...'

'Magic Power?'

Holding the dancing flame in his palm, Lu Cang looked up at Kumironi. "Does this mean the Profession change was a success?"

'It felt a little too easy.'

Kumironi smiled. "Yes, very successful."

"Lu Cang, you have quite a bit of talent for Magic. You might just be a little bit behind Iz."

"It seems making you a Mage was the right choice. Perhaps you'll become a great Mage one day."

'Oh?'

'Just a little behind Iz, huh?'

'That doesn't sound like much of a compliment, even though Iz has a great personality and gives off a good impression.'

'But being just a little behind a Level 5 Mage...'

'...sounds pretty ordinary.'

'However...'

Lu Cang felt a hazy mist appear in his mind.

The mist swirled, coalescing into a special symbol that was engraved within his body.

[For every Level gained in a Profession, you will obtain one Talent Effect and evolve it to Divine Level.]

[Current—Mage: Level 1]

[Acquired Talent: Skill Proficiency Mastery >> 「Divine Skill Evolution」]

'It's here!'

'A unique Talent!'

'Looks like I really am a little different from ordinary people.'

'As a Transmigrator who was suddenly and inexplicably chosen to come to this world, being a bit special is to be expected.'

However, Kumironi's next words were, spoken with a smile, "Now that you've completed your Profession change, try to sense what Talent you've awakened."

'Huh...?'

'Isn't having a Talent something that's unique to me?'

Kumironi counted on her fingers, "Maybe it's a very rare Talent, or maybe even a rare dual Talent."

But Kumironi suddenly realized something and quickly added, "Ah, but it's okay if the Talent you awakened isn't very powerful."

"Even a common Talent like Skill Proficiency Mastery has good potential for growth!"

"There are many ways to get stronger. Iz will always have a solution."

"Of course, it's fine if you don't want to tell us what your Talent is. After all, a Talent is your trump card. But if we know what it is, Iz can give you more targeted training."

"Don't worry, we'll keep it a secret for you."

'Is she trying to keep me from feeling disappointed?'

'What a team of nice people.'

'But that line about "a common Talent like Skill Proficiency Mastery"... wasn't that a little too harsh?'

'Is it really that common? To be the first example she brought up.'

'It makes it feel like some dime-a-dozen Talent that everyone has.'

Lu Cang answered quietly, "Skill Proficiency Mastery."

'Since it's so common, it shouldn't matter if I reveal it, right?'

'Besides, I get a new Talent every Level.'

'By the time I reach Level 100, I'll have 100 Divine Talents.'

'Revealing just one Talent now isn't like showing all my cards.'

'Wait, the Level cap might not even be 100.'

Although he really wanted to ask Kumironi what the maximum Level in this world was, the question felt too awkward.

That kind of common knowledge question is something even a three-year-old native to this world should know.

It would be very strange if an eight-year-old didn't know.

Having just arrived in this world, Lu Cang didn't want to seem unusually suspicious.

'I should ask in a different way, a way that doesn't expose my lack of common sense but still gets me the answer about the Level cap.'

'Right, I'll just ask what Level the strongest Mage in the world is. I should be able to infer the cap from that.'

Iz: "Skill Proficiency Mastery?"

"That's a good Talent. If you can master Magic faster, you can become a High Level Mage sooner."

"So, do you want to learn Magic right now?"

Lu Cang had been about to ask about Levels, but as soon as Iz said that, the question was instantly thrown to the back of his mind.

Lu Cang nodded excitedly.

'Magic.'

'Who wouldn't get excited hearing that word? Anyone who could stay calm at the thought of casting Magic must be a fake Transmigrator, the kind of frigid person who couldn't even get it up if a beautiful girl stood naked in front of them.'

"Yes!"

Iz put on a thoughtful expression. "Hmm… for a beginner, the first spell…"

"Let's learn some cool Thunder Magic."

"Tier One Thunder Magic, the Thunder Strike Skill."

Izparut raised his hand with a SWISH!

BOOM!

A pillar of thunder roared as it fell!

In an instant, it blasted a large tree—one that would take two people to wrap their arms around—into charred ash.

Lu Cang's eyes shone with excitement!

'Magic!'

'After all this time in this world, this was the first time he had seen Iz use Magic!'

'The Thunder Strike Skill?'

'It's so strong!'

'A Tier One spell that even I can learn can actually blast a four-story-tall tree, one that would take two people to wrap their arms around, into a smoldering, charred husk.'

"I want to learn it!"

"Iz, how can I learn the Thunder Strike Skill?!"

Iz: "Hmph hmph~"

"To learn Magic, the first step is… to learn…"

Izparut pulled a purple-covered book from his robes.

"How to read a Magic Book."

Hearing this response,

Lu Cang froze on the spot.

'Read... a book?'

'Wait, this isn't going to be that legendary theoretical learning, is it? No! Can't you just learn Magic with a *ding* by adding a point to it?!'
