Faye Vaughn, hazy from the alcohol, gave a guileless smile. "Fireworks. I want to set off fireworks with you."
Vincent Hawthorne, leaning toward her, stiffened slightly.
'Just fireworks?'
Faye, however, grew excited and pointed at the balcony. "Actually, I bought some fireworks a while ago, but I've never set them off myself. I'm a little scared."
Vincent Hawthorne composed himself before speaking. "You can't set off fireworks on the balcony."
Faye let out a fake sob to show her disappointment, then brightened up again. "Then let's go outside and set them off."
She started to get up as she spoke.
Vincent Hawthorne felt utterly helpless seeing her like this.
'So she really is drunk.'
"Your ankle is injured, you can't walk. You've forgotten again." Vincent Hawthorne pushed her back down onto the sofa and glanced at his watch. "There are only ten minutes until the New Year's countdown. Be good."
Faye pouted in disappointment. "Then I'll go to the bathroom first."
