After the lunch bell faded, Haruka and his friends returned to the classroom, where three classes awaited—each a mere step closer to the day's end. With the teacher's voice a distant hum, Haruka found his attention adrift, tethered not to lessons but to fragments of nature that danced outside the window, and to one cherished vision: Yume.
A breathtaking gift from the world, she felt far beyond his reach, though perhaps he was mistaken; only the heavens knew for sure. He marveled at how Yume would idly tuck stray strands of hair behind her ear when lost in thought. How he longed to perform that small act for her, the thought lingering in his mind as the class dragged on.
When school finally dismissed, Haruka stepped outside along with his friends. He was neither overly talkative nor strictly reserved, an introvert in the face of strangers, yet an extrovert in the embrace of familiarity. Aurel, Saito, Fuyuki, Naoki, Marcus, and Yume awaited him under the sun's gentle embrace.
Haruka emerged with a smile and a wave, approaching them slowly.
"Let's have fun, shall we?" Aurel declared, a spark of mischief in his voice. "The amusement park or the lake? It's up to you all."
Naoki, ever the calm strategist, advocated for the lake,
"Nature has a refreshing allure." Saito, sharing Naoki's thoughtful nature, chimed in, favoring the park for its promise of joy.
Yume echoed Saito's sentiment, her eyes bright at the thought of the park, while Fuyuki championed the lake, enamored by how the sunlight danced across its surface at three o'clock, a sight he deemed exquisite. Marcus stood as a mediator, believing both places held their own allure, but arguing that the park resided in the realm of fun, while the lake whispered tranquility; fun, in its essence, could be refreshing too.
With their eyes turned toward Haruka, anticipation hung in the air, as he was notoriously indecisive.
"Well... um... the park sounds fun, you know..." he ventured, his voice tinged with hesitation. Aurel's face lit up, a friendly smack landing on Haruka's shoulder.
"Look at that! Haruka made a choice—it's like seeing the sun at midnight, a rarity!" he teased, urging the group onward without further delay.
Laughter followed them down the path, a melody of youthful joy. In moments, they reached the amusement park, a vibrant world pulsing with life. Fuyuki and Aurel glowed with delight, their excitement unmistakable. For Haruka, it was a first; Yume, an old hand, reveled in the novelty of experiencing it with friends. As they explored, Yume noticed the wonder illuminating Haruka's eyes; he was captivated, awestruck.
In a flurry of spontaneity, she took his hand, pulling him toward the Ferris wheel.
With a flourish, she bought two tickets, calling out to the others,
"BUY YOUR OWN TICKETS! I'M GONNA SHOW HIM THE FUN!" Haruka, befuddled by the whirlwind, felt color rise to his cheeks as Yume held his hand, warmth radiating between them. Inside the cabin of the Ferris wheel, she maintained her grip, a playful smirk teasing her lips, seemingly eager to see his reaction.
Aurel and the others took their places in a neighboring cabin, the sight of Yume's hand in Haruka's setting off a ripple of playful nudges and laughter. Saito, amidst the jovial chaos, mused aloud, "But in the face of love. One loses sight of one's earned intelligence. And eventually becomes "The idiot". He knows he has changed. But he doesn't care about it. His heart speaks in a different tone now. Blinded by an unknown force." His words hung in the air, shifting the mood.
"In love, one must be an idiot, and the other must possess wisdom; otherwise, harmony eludes us," Naoki added thoughtfully.
With a playful scoff, Aurel remarked, "Calm down; they are both idiots! One a grown fool, the other a youthful one."
In the midst of happiness, the connection between Yume and Haruka deepened. As the Ferris wheel began to spin, their hands remained intertwined, Haruka's heartbeat quickening, the pink blush blossoming into a deeper crimson. Yume, unfazed, realized she was still holding his hand but found the moment too sweet to interrupt. The prospect of moving her hand seemed abrupt, and so she lingered in that blissful contact. The ride became a whirlwind where Haruka felt nothing but butterflies swirling in his stomach. He had always known his heart belonged to Yume, yet certainty slipped through his fingers like sand. A chaotic ailment blossomed within him, one that felt both like a curse and a blessing, intensifying with every passing moment.
