BWDC:SDDK Chapter 126: Vampires Really Do Exist in This World!

"Hmph, vampires, Dracula... it's all just stories to scare kids."

"Would I, the great detective Mouri Kogoro, ever be afraid of such deceptive nonsense?"

Mouri Kogoro paid no mind to Ren Ichimonji's words.

Even though Mouri Ran, standing behind him, was already clutching a Bible to her chest and wearing a crucifix pendant, he remained completely unmoved. If a mere vampire actually existed, he'd just have to let them taste the power of his judo!

He spoke irritably, "Alright, alright, where would vampires even come from in this world?"

"Dracula Villa is right ahead. Let's go take a look!"

Conan, whose niche had been usurped by the Bible, was sitting in the middle seat with a string of garlic hanging around his neck.

He sat there, utterly dejected.

Curse it all—he never imagined in his life that his position would be replaced by a book!

He glanced at Ren Ichimonji beside him and felt a flicker of surprise.

Strange, Ren Ichimonji seems a bit distracted.

What's wrong? Did something happen?

Could it be that he saw the legendary Vampire Dracula appearing inside that villa?

Conan's brow furrowed; he sensed that the situation was not simple.

In reality, Ren Ichimonji was simply looking at the system light screen in front of him.

It was only because Conan couldn't see the screen that he assumed Ren Ichimonji was staring at the distant Dracula Villa.

[Detected: A violent incident threatening the public order of Gotham City has occurred nearby!]

[As Batman, you have a duty to maintain Gotham's peace. Please proceed quickly to the incident location and apprehend the criminal before they flee the scene, or stop them in the middle of their crime!]

[Difficulty: Low. Completion of the current mission will award 20 points!]

The difficulty of this public order mission was still rated as "Low."

This meant there was a high probability that a second victim wouldn't appear.

Ren Ichimonji felt at ease with the system's difficulty ratings.

At the very least, it shouldn't be as ridiculous as that Scarecrow from the previous special mission—the one who used magic-side abilities to masquerade as physical-side illusions. It wasn't possible for the mission difficulty to change automatically, right?

Looking at it from this perspective...

Supernatural phenomena shouldn't occur in this case. His preparations for dealing with vampires likely wouldn't be needed.

Still, that was for the best.

Ren Ichimonji nodded slightly.

He had no experience fighting vampires and didn't know if the UV lamps, garlic, crucifixes, flails, Bibles, wooden stakes, the "Special Version Crucifix for Celestial Dragons," and the holy water he'd snagged from a nearby church would actually work.

It would be a bit troublesome if they didn't.

He couldn't exactly hard-crowd-control a vampire all night until the sun came up, could he?

"We're here, we're here! Dracula Manor is right in front of us," Mouri Kogoro announced happily.

Before them, a Western medieval-style villa came into view, gradually becoming clearer. Noticing a vehicle approaching, a handsome young man hurried ahead to open the gate.

Once the car had driven into the estate grounds, Mouri Kogoro finally brought it to a halt. Leading the way out of the car, he said:

"I am the great detective Mouri Kogoro. I've come regarding Daisuke Torakura's request."

"And you are?"

The young man smiled and said, "I am a student of Master Torakura, currently studying under him. You may call me Toshiya Tadokoro."

Just as Toshiya Tadokoro finished speaking, his gaze landed on the two figures behind Mouri Kogoro.

Good grief.

One was clutching a Bible and wearing a crucifix, while the other was wearing a string of garlic.

What were these two, the big one and the small one, here for? An exorcism?

Tadokoro's expression grew strained.

It wasn't until he saw Ren Ichimonji that he let out a sigh of relief.

This one looks normal.

Unlike the first two, he isn't carrying a bunch of props for dealing with vampires.

Yes, this is the proper way to meet Master Torakura!

Without further delay, Toshiya Tadokoro said, "Master Torakura is already waiting for you. Mr. Mouri, please follow me."

Hearing this, Mouri Kogoro immediately straightened his clothes and followed.

However, as they passed through the courtyard, he noticed an exceptionally beautiful woman sketching by a pond, facing a statue in the center. Instantly, Kogoro's "hidden tendencies" flared up. He said subconsciously:

"So beautiful!"

Mouri Ran, standing beside him, reacted with a look of: "?"

How can you say something like that right in front of your daughter?

Sensing Ran's disapproving gaze, Kogoro quickly laughed it off and said, "Haha, and this is?"

Tadokoro introduced her: "This is Master Torakura's wife, Mrs. Etsuko Torakura."

The drawing is decent.

Ren Ichimonji offered a silent critique from the side.

He knew a little bit about drawing.

Just as he knew a little bit about cooking.

The group had just pushed open the villa doors and stepped inside when the weather outside suddenly turned gloomy. A few snowflakes even began to fall.

Suddenly, Ren Ichimonji snapped his head back, his face a giant question mark.

Ren Ichimonji: "?"

Are you kidding me? From cloudy to overcast to snow?

System, are you sure this difficulty is Low? Not Medium?

Dracula is one of Gotham's villains, right? Why didn't a special mission trigger? Are you sure there are no supernatural factors?

Ren Ichimonji paused.

Ran and the others ahead didn't notice.

Looking at the interior decor, which resembled the castle from a vampire movie, Conan and Ran instinctively felt a chill. They couldn't help but grip their garlic and crucifix, hoping for a bit of psychological comfort.

Mouri Kogoro also felt the atmosphere was becoming a bit off.

However, remembering what he had said to Ren Ichimonji earlier, he forced himself to walk forward with a stiff neck.

—I refuse to believe vampires actually exist!

If one has the guts to bite me, I'll show them the meaning of judo!

Tap, tap, tap.

They headed up the stairs.

When they reached a dim corridor with no windows, Toshiya Tadokoro said seriously:

"Next, I ask that Mr. Mouri come alone with me to see Master Torakura."

Mouri Kogoro: "?"

Me alone? Really?

Kogoro instinctively took half a step back.

He glanced at Ren Ichimonji, who had just caught up, and swallowed hard.

"Do you want a crucifix?"

Ren Ichimonji pulled another one from his utility belt and asked.

Kogoro hesitated for a moment but eventually said, "No need! Vampires do not exist in this world!"

He walked toward the end of the corridor with a look of grim determination.

He opened the door.

To his horror, there wasn't a single ray of light inside; even the windows were blocked off.

Kogoro swallowed and stepped inside.

The door behind him closed automatically.

A moment later, he saw a woman standing at the only light source in the room.

Kogoro was just about to ask what was going on when, in the next second, a caped Dracula appeared out of thin air and bit the woman's neck.

Accompanied by a scream, the woman immediately collapsed into the darkness.

Kogoro was so terrified he fell back onto the floor.

He only regretted that he'd spoken so loudly earlier and hadn't asked Ren Ichimonji for the crucifix.

However, he took a closer look and realized it was a movie being projected. He let out a long sigh of relief.

Leaning against the wall, Kogoro stood up, his legs feeling like jelly.

"Mouri Kogoro?"

In the next moment, a voice as sinister as the Dracula in the movie rang out.

Kogoro's eyes widened.

He looked toward the projection screen. Stepping through it, one pace at a time, came a vampire that looked exactly like the Dracula from the film.

The strength he'd just regained vanished instantly.

He instinctively backed away, shouting:

"Don't come near me!!!"

God help me, vampires really do exist in this world!
