BWDC:SDDK Chapter 130: Killing a Vampire Requires a Stake
For the time being, it seemed as though nothing unusual was happening within the Dracula Villa.
Mouri Kogoro's shadow, Conan, rubbed his chin and followed Mao Ran back to their seats. Could it be that in a classic "Blizzard Mansion" setting like the Dracula Villa, a violent incident truly wouldn't occur?
After a moment of thought, he nodded slightly. There was no such thing as metaphysical theories in this world. Perhaps all the violent murders they had encountered before were just coincidences. It couldn't possibly be because someone's bad luck brought disaster wherever they went, right?
Thinking this way, it felt only natural that no violent crime would break out in the Dracula Villa tonight.
Clatter, clatter.
The sound of rolling wheels echoed.
Tadokoro Shunsuke, who had just gone to the collection room with Conan and Mao Ran to retrieve a movie videotape, reappeared pushing a dining cart. On his cart sat not only the tape for the movie Bloody Magical Realm but also a bottle of red wine and two wine glasses.
Seeing this, Mouri Kogoro immediately grumbled, "Mr. Torakura is indeed a master of horror fiction; he even likes to drink a little red wine while creating."
"If I wrote novels like Mr. Torakura, I'd probably be drinking a few cans of beer to refresh myself at this hour."
He was quite envious. If he could drink red wine as a midnight snack every night, he'd be willing even if it meant taking on commissions with a million-yen fee every single day!
Of course, such a good thing didn't exist, and even if it did, it wouldn't fall into Mouri Kogoro's lap.
Beside him, Mao Ran cast a disapproving look and whispered into Mouri Kogoro's ear, "Dad, didn't we agree you'd quit drinking for a while?"
"Why bring up red wine and beer all of a sudden? Is it really that difficult for you if you don't drink?"
Hearing this, Mouri Kogoro immediately gave a sheepish laugh and replied, "No, no, how could that be?"
"Not drinking doesn't affect anything. It's just that after a drink, I have more inspiration for investigating cases!"
To this, Conan could only complain inwardly: What do you mean 'more inspiration'? You clearly just say whatever comes to mind after getting tipsy and then fall fast asleep to let someone else do the work.
Just as Conan thought nothing special would happen tonight, Ren Ichimonji suddenly stood up.
His fingers brushed lightly against his ear as if adjusting something. He immediately walked from the living room toward Torakura Daisuke's room. This scene surprised everyone present.
Why was Ren Ichimonji going to Torakura Daisuke's room now? Did he have something to do?
The answer was yes.
Through the earpiece connected to a bugging device, Ren Ichimonji had just heard an abnormal sound. As a precaution, he had to go and check immediately.
Watching Ren Ichimonji head toward the door at the end of the hallway, reaching it in just a few seconds, Conan's eyes narrowed. He realized Ren Ichimonji had likely discovered something.
If Ren Ichimonji hadn't found anything and was just checking the situation, he would have walked over casually. Why would he be in such a hurry?
If he went there now... could it be that Mr. Tadokoro Shunsuke had made a move against Mr. Torakura Daisuke?
There were no vampires in the Dracula Villa.
But was that really true?
Not necessarily. In the eyes of Tadokoro Shunsuke, there was indeed a vampire inside the Dracula Villa.
The true identity of that vampire was his teacher, Torakura Daisuke.
This horror master, famous for his vampire-themed novels, had actually long since reached his wit's end. He no longer possessed the talent to write and relied entirely on constantly sucking the blood of others to maintain his reputation.
He contacted Doi Fumio, who was on good terms with him, and had Doi send manuscripts from other horror authors to his home. He would then watch movies, copy the plots, and modify the content, calling it his own "creation."
Torakura Daisuke was even losing the energy to do these minor rewrites due to his own laziness. This was why he had announced to the public that he was transitioning to writing superhero-themed novels with supernatural powers.
In truth, even if the fifty-year-old Torakura Daisuke hadn't exhausted his talent, it would be impossible for him to keep up with the current era. The novels he was currently "writing" were actually ghostwritten by his student, Tadokoro Shunsuke.
The reason he claimed to be switching to superhero stories was entirely because that was Tadokoro Shunsuke's specialty.
No one knew how many people had been bled dry by this selfish vampire, Torakura Daisuke—using the talent, interests, and even the lives of others to nourish his own wealth.
Now, Tadokoro Shunsuke was going to take action to completely execute this vampire, avenging those whose time and talent had been wasted, and avenging his own younger sister.
Tadokoro Shunsuke had a sister named Tadokoro Kaori.
Because she suffered from a serious illness, she needed a large sum of money for treatment. The Tadokoro family couldn't afford it and were forced to give up, but Shunsuke refused to let go. He searched everywhere for funds to save her.
Eventually, after seeing his manuscripts, Doi Fumio found him and introduced him to Torakura Daisuke to be his "student." In name, he was a student; in reality, he was a ghostwriter. In exchange, Torakura Daisuke would pay for his sister's treatment.
However, his sister still passed away a year ago because the treatment was ineffective. Tadokoro Shunsuke had always believed her body simply couldn't withstand the process.
Until a month ago, when the nurse who cared for his sister quietly found him and revealed the truth.
Torakura Daisuke had indeed paid for the treatment. However, while publicly funding her, he had bribed the attending physician to provide only the absolute minimum level of care. He wanted to ensure her recovery was delayed as long as possible.
Only by doing this could Torakura Daisuke continue to exploit Tadokoro Shunsuke to write new novels for him.
However, this behavior backfired. The minimum level of care caused Kaori's condition to deteriorate more rapidly. Ultimately, she died much sooner than she would have under normal circumstances.
This was why Tadokoro Shunsuke was acting today.
He looked down at Torakura Daisuke, who had collapsed on the floor after being struck on the back of the head.
Then, he took out the real wooden stake he had previously swapped with a fake one. He lunged forward, stabbing it fiercely into Torakura Daisuke's chest!
