Senju Hashirama Gradually Feels the Urge to Clap His Hands Together
Bang!
The door was shoved open with force by Senju Hashirama.
From the sheer strength of the push alone, the ANBU operative still inside the Hokage's office instantly sensed Hashirama's current mood.
This was definitely not a friendly visit.
As for the true culprit who had provoked Hashirama—Senju Tobirama—he outwardly looked as calm as ever, his expression perfectly composed.
Yet beneath the desk, his palms were already slick with sweat.
Big brother with a gloomy face… this is terrifying as hell.
"Lord Tobirama, if there's nothing else, I'll take my leave immediately."
Reading the room, the ANBU ninja prepared to make a clean escape. One was the Hokage, the other the Shadow Hokage—Konoha's so-called Nine-Thousand-Year-Old.
If these brothers started fighting, it would be gods clashing. He had no intention of being reduced to collateral damage.
"Mm. You may go."
Tobirama nodded.
He didn't particularly want his subordinates witnessing him being scolded either.
The ANBU ninja vanished at once.
Now, only Hashirama and Tobirama remained in the room.
"Tobirama! Was it you who ordered ANBU to beat Konoha's villagers this afternoon—and lock them all up?!"
"How could you do something like this?!"
Hashirama didn't beat around the bush. He roared his question straight at Tobirama, his voice shaking the office.
It felt as though if Tobirama dared to deny it outright, the next second Hashirama would clap his hands together.
"So… Big Brother believes I was wrong?" Tobirama asked calmly.
"Of course you were wrong!"
"No matter what, Konoha's ANBU must never lay hands on villagers!"
"Tobirama, I trusted you. Completely. That's why I entrusted both the clan and the village to you."
"I believed you would help me govern Konoha properly."
"But what you did this time… truly disappointed me."
"Do you know the villagers now treat me like a walking plague? They avoid me the moment they see me!"
Hashirama went completely all out.
He pointed at Tobirama's face, scolding him mercilessly—every word sharp, every sentence burning with anger.
To be fair, Hashirama had always known his brother harbored suspicions toward the Uchiha. He understood Tobirama's unease, his inability to fully trust them.
But that had always been within acceptable bounds.
Hashirama believed Tobirama might complain, mutter curses in private, grumble in front of him—but he would never actually do anything harmful.
That was why Hashirama had handed everything over to him.
And yet—
He never imagined that the brother he trusted with both Konoha and the Senju clan would end up ordering ANBU to beat civilians.
This was far worse.
Unforgivable.
The villagers' fearful eyes earlier—the way they avoided him like he was cursed—still hadn't left Hashirama's mind.
This was not the Konoha he wanted.
His agitation only grew.
Tobirama, meanwhile, remained silent—wisely choosing not to defend himself yet. He knew his brother well.
An enraged Hashirama was perfectly capable of using Wood Release to hammer him into the floor.
"Big Brother… are you done?"
"You've been pointing at my nose and yelling since you came in."
"You never once asked why I did it."
Seeing Hashirama's fury finally ebb a little, Tobirama launched his counterattack.
He didn't believe he was wrong in the slightest.
In fact, he believed he'd handled everything perfectly.
He had:
Prevented villagers from gathering at the Hokage Building
Preserved the Hokage's dignity
Proved the Senju administration's authority
Punished troublemakers just enough to deter future incidents
Most importantly, he'd smelled danger.
Villagers, driven by public opinion, were daring to question Senju governance, openly siding with the Uchiha, even planning to storm the Hokage Building.
Regardless of whether there was a mastermind behind it, such arrogance had to be punished.
This crossed a principle line.
Village decisions were not something villagers were allowed to obstruct.
Yes, the methods were a bit rough.
But everything else was flawless.
Big Brother is just too naive.
Tobirama thought coldly.
He then explained everything that had happened that afternoon.
"These villagers interfered with village decisions, used the Ame–Kumo war to smear Konoha."
"'Three Virtues of the Ninja,' 'Ame wins three times, Konoha loses completely,' 'Konoha's inherent flaws'—utter nonsense!"
"I was already planning to deploy forces tomorrow for armed mediation."
"I even intended to ignore their chatter."
"But today, they attacked your reputation as Hokage, questioned Senju rule, and even planned to gather and force you to step down!"
"Do you understand how serious that is?!"
"They've grown far too arrogant. They had to be punished."
In any village, such behavior would be unacceptable.
Ordinary civilians had no right to openly challenge village authority.
As for the core issue—delaying troop deployment—Tobirama brushed it aside with a single sentence:
He was the Commander-in-Chief.
When he said preparations were complete, they were complete.
In fact, everything was ready. Troops could move tomorrow.
This chaos was caused entirely by those villagers disrupting his flawless plan. (confident face)
"…I see."
Hashirama finally understood the full story.
Objectively, it did sound serious.
Villagers gathering to riot already violated village law.
Tobirama's actions could even be called "emergency measures."
A rational leader might even praise him for decisiveness.
But—
Hashirama was not that kind of leader.
"I don't care what the reason was!"
"Ordering ANBU to beat villagers is wrong—period!"
"You've destroyed the warm, harmonious atmosphere of Konoha!"
"The villagers are now afraid even to greet me!"
"This is not the Konoha I envisioned!"
"Then tell me, Big Brother," Tobirama shot back,
"how would you handle it?"
"Why couldn't you just explain things to them?"
"They're only worried about Konoha!"
Hashirama's naïveté shone through again.
He believed villagers meant well.
Excessive behavior aside, a simple explanation could solve everything.
As for attacks on his reputation?
He could laugh those off.
But Tobirama using force on civilians—
That crossed a line.
"Big Brother, why won't you think about the implications?"
"I was defending village authority. Hokage authority."
"If villagers can protest and storm the Hokage Building whenever they're unhappy—"
"So they must be crushed decisively!"
"And if the Uchiha exploit this—!"
Tobirama rubbed his face in frustration.
Villagers were already planning mass protest, and Hashirama still thought words would suffice.
Any retreat would only encourage further demands.
And behind this unrest?
Tobirama was convinced there were hands pulling the strings.
The Uchiha.
Uchiha Makoto.
If they succeeded once, they'd only escalate.
When will Big Brother ever grow up?
"Enough, Tobirama!"
Hashirama's chakra suddenly erupted, dangerous and oppressive, cutting Tobirama off mid-sentence.
Their visions of Konoha had completely diverged.
Hashirama believed in harmony, trust, and warmth—sustained by his own overwhelming strength.
Tobirama planned for a future without Hashirama.
Order. Structure. Authority.
Two paths. Impossible to reconcile.
"Hmph."
Tobirama turned his head aside and shut up.
(Not listening, turtle chanting scriptures.)
He knew better than to provoke further.
The room fell into heavy silence.
Then—
A calm voice broke it.
"What is it now? You two are arguing again?"
"Every time it's like this. Can you please give me some peace?"
Uzumaki Mito stepped in, perfectly timed. She had sensed Hashirama's chakra surge from next door.
"Sister-in-law, you're here."
Reinforcements have arrived.
Tobirama's tension eased instantly.
"Ah, Mito… Tobirama went too far today."
"And he's still arguing back!"
"Enough, both of you."
"I heard everything from next door."
"You're both acting like children."
"And Hashirama—stop releasing chakra like that."
"Sorry, sorry… I got carried away."
"But Tobirama, I will not approve of what you did."
"You must reflect, admit your mistake, release the villagers immediately—"
"And publicly apologize to them."
