Kumogakure and Akatsuki Clash — And If Uchiha Makoto Were to Drop Dead, Wouldn't That Sound Wonderful?
News of Akatsuki's overwhelming victory quickly reached Konoha.
The first to receive it was, naturally, Senju Tobirama—that "innately evil" old Senju fox.
Hokage Office — Konoha
Tobirama stood inside the Hokage's office, holding two intelligence reports in his hands.
The first was Akatsuki's so-called Self-Defense Retaliation Declaration:
"Kumogakure repeatedly ignored Akatsuki's warnings, deliberately killed two of our chūnin, and later launched an attack on our negotiation delegation, seriously threatening the safety of our envoys!"
This statement had already been amplified by numerous Fire Country mainstream newspapers, all swearing up and down that:
Kumogakure had gone too far.
Even several small neighboring nations eagerly jumped in, echoing the narrative and trampling Kumogakure in wave after wave of condemnation.
More absurd still—
Media outlets from other Great Nations joined the fray as well.
Earth Country.
Wind Country.
Water Country.
Their participation was one thing.
But even certain influential newspapers within the Land of Lightning itself were openly criticizing Kumogakure.
After all, media was media.
In journalism—whether in the shinobi world or otherwise—
money talked.
And Akatsuki was paying very well.
Yet despite Akatsuki's sweeping victory in the court of public opinion, Tobirama had only two words for this declaration:
"Toilet paper."
He didn't believe a single word.
Not from these so-called "authoritative" outlets—
(Any media siding with the Uchiha was, by definition, irresponsible trash.)
Based on Tobirama's understanding of Uchiha Makoto, that innately evil Uchiha brat;
based on Akatsuki's earlier thinly veiled extortion disguised as compensation demands;
and based on their increasingly abnormal behavior—
Tobirama reached one conclusion:
Something was very wrong.
Either the evidence was fabricated—
Or it had been meticulously edited and curated.
These media outlets had clearly been bought.
Akatsuki had deliberately manufactured a pretext to declare war on Kumogakure.
"Terrifying…"
"Manipulating people. Manipulating public opinion…"
"Kumogakure has really fallen into the pit this time. Whether they like it or not, the blame for starting this war is theirs to bear."
Tobirama crushed the declaration into a ball and tossed it into the trash.
At the same time, he raised Uchiha Makoto's threat level yet again.
This was a man who played with hearts, with narratives, with the flow of the world itself.
Tobirama had encountered Makoto's methods before, but until now he'd only raised his guard slightly.
Only now did he truly grasp how terrifying this approach was.
Bloodless slaughter.
Now the entire shinobi world believed the same story:
Kumogakure attacked first.
Akatsuki was forced to retaliate.
Even if Kumogakure tried to explain itself, it would be useless.
One mouth could never outshout a thousand.
"Uchiha Makoto… truly a vile little demon."
"Despicable. Shameless."
"…But effective."
Tobirama's lips tightened.
If there's ever a chance, he thought,
I'll return this trick to him in kind.
Using his own methods against him—justice by his own sword.
That would be righteous.
The Second Report
Tobirama unfolded the second intelligence dossier.
"…He really did it."
"That innately evil Uchiha brat actually cut Konoha out entirely and launched a solo war against Kumogakure?"
"Over a thousand fully armed Kumogakure shinobi… annihilated on their own defensive lines."
"…A flawless annihilation."
His eyes widened.
Even Tobirama couldn't hide his shock.
Not only had Makoto truly gone to war without Konoha—
He had achieved such staggering results in a single night.
Over a thousand elite Kumogakure shinobi.
Gone.
Even Tobirama had to admit:
This was a textbook lightning annihilation campaign.
If one set aside abnormal existences like Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara—
And swapped their roles—
Tobirama wasn't confident he himself could have achieved such results.
"But… what exactly is he trying to do?"
"What does this war even gain Akatsuki?"
"Akatsuki and Kumogakure had no real利益冲突—no strategic conflict."
"All this for two chūnin?"
"That's absurd… reckless…"
"…Though, coming from an Uchiha… maybe not impossible."
Tobirama set the report down, muttering to himself.
The problem was simple:
He couldn't understand Makoto's logic.
Tobirama was a pure Warring States–era thinker.
Makoto, on the other hand, thought like something entirely different—
as if he were playing some vast strategic simulation, operating on timelines and leverage far beyond conventional shinobi logic.
In Tobirama's eyes, this should have been a routine mission dispute.
Not nearly enough to justify a full-scale war.
"…I've solved it."
"I really was overthinking it."
"This is probably just another Uchiha episode—madness flaring up again."
In the end, Tobirama defaulted to the explanation he knew best.
During the Warring States era, he'd seen it countless times:
Uchiha driven mad by the extreme emotional chakra of the Sharingan.
Personalities warped.
Behavior destabilized.
Decisions spiraling into obsession and insanity.
Hashirama Arrives
At that moment, Hashirama Senju arrived in a rush.
The moment Tobirama received the initial intelligence, he had summoned his elder brother to align their understanding.
Diplomacy.
War.
These were matters Tobirama couldn't decide alone.
The Shadow Hokage was still only a shadow.
"Tobirama, what do we do?"
"Kumogakure provoked Akatsuki, Akatsuki retaliated, and now war has begun!"
Hashirama's face was filled with anxiety.
He had only just managed to calm Madara down.
Recently, Madara's chakra had grown colder.
Darker.
Something inside him was changing.
And now—
War.
Hashirama didn't even dare imagine what Madara—or the Uchiha—might do next.
If this spiraled out of control…
The fragile peace they'd built would shatter.
The shinobi world could return to an era of endless war.
"…Brother."
"Kumogakure probably didn't provoke anything."
"This looks more like Akatsuki… framing them."
Tobirama felt genuine disbelief.
How could his brother still believe the 'self-defense' narrative?
To Tobirama, the two most dangerous figures in the shinobi world were now crystal clear:
Uchiha Makoto — the architect of this war.
Uchiha Madara — the powder keg waiting to explode.
"Tobirama!"
"I've told you before—don't say things that harm Uchiha unity!"
"Especially at a time like this!"
"If Madara hears this, do you know how much effort it takes for me to smooth things over?!"
Hashirama snapped, once again instinctively defending the Uchiha.
Tobirama's face darkened.
He waved his hand dismissively and changed the subject.
"…Fine, brother. I understand."
"Let's focus on what to do next."
Good intentions wasted, he thought bitterly.
You really are hopelessly biased.
Tobirama's Deeper Fears
The situation itself was no longer complicated.
From Konoha's perspective:
Once Akatsuki and Kumogakure were at war, right and wrong no longer mattered.
Position decided truth.
Akatsuki was fighting under the banner of avenging three fallen chūnin—two of theirs, one of Konoha's.
They were winning on the battlefield.
They were dominating public opinion.
And Konoha was their ally.
Logically, Konoha should support Akatsuki without hesitation.
In Tobirama's view:
Even if Akatsuki had deliberately provoked the war—
Konoha should simply ride the momentum.
Mobilize immediately.
Have Hashirama lead the army personally.
Crush Kumogakure outright.
That would:
Stabilize internal opinion
Prevent the Uchiha from gaining political leverage
Shut down Akatsuki's long-term ambitions
Raw power was the cleanest solution.
But—
Hashirama would never agree.
He would want mediation.
De-escalation.
"Peace talks."
Tobirama knew his brother too well.
And that was exactly why Tobirama was afraid.
Village conflicts would only increase.
Today Kumogakure.
Tomorrow… Akatsuki?
Alliances were not eternal.
And Akatsuki's Hikage—
Was Uchiha Makoto.
A man Tobirama was certain harbored ill intent toward the Senju and toward Konoha itself.
Why else would he abandon the Uchiha clan and build his own village?
That alone marked him as a long-term existential threat.
As long as Hashirama lived, Konoha was safe.
Even if Madara rebelled, Tobirama was confident they could crush it.
He almost wished it would happen—
better to excise the tumor early.
But the odds were low.
The Uchiha were arrogant, not suicidal.
They knew Hashirama's strength.
But what about the future?
What happened after Hashirama?
The Senju would never produce another Hashirama.
Tobirama knew that better than anyone.
Makoto was young.
Time was on his side.
And one day—
Neither Tobirama nor Hashirama would be there.
Then what?
Uchiha.
Senju.
Makoto.
Akatsuki.
Konoha.
The thoughts spiraled endlessly.
And for the first time—
Tobirama felt genuine fear.
Akatsuki's displayed power already exceeded expectations.
It's time, he thought.
Time to prepare.
Time to plan.
Even if his methods would earn eternal infamy—
He would erase this future before it could happen.
