Chapter 73 - Cassian

I stood there for a long moment, staring at nothing. The war room had gone quiet, the kind of silence that pressed against your ears and made you notice every heartbeat.

My reflection stared back at me in the window. Same face. Same tired eyes. Same weight settling into my shoulders that hadn't been there a week ago.

When had I last eaten?

I couldn't remember. Not a proper meal, anyway. Just bread torn from rations while reading reports, cold coffee swallowed between briefings, the taste of nothing while my body ran on whatever fuel I could force down.

Funny. It felt a lot like my old world.

The door creaked.

I didn't turn. I already knew who it was. The soft tread of bare feet, the faint rustle of fabric, the subtle shift in the air that always came with her presence.

"Cassian."

Reina's voice was quiet, careful.

"You look terrible."

"I know."
