Chapter 63 - "I Have a Way"

chapter 63

Esabell: "…When humanity nearly disappeared…"

A pause.

The distant trembling beneath Dumase echoed once more through the prison walls.

GRRRRRR—

Dust slipped quietly from above.

Esabell slowly lowered her gaze.

Esabell: "…People begged the heavens for forgiveness."

Her voice softened.

Quieter now.

Almost fragile.

Esabell: "…And then an angel descended."

The torchlight flickered gently across her face.

Chris blinked once.

Then immediately—

Chris: "…A cute angel?"

BOOM.

Guinevere's fist slammed directly into the top of his head.

Chris folded instantly.

Chris: "OW—?!"

Guinevere: "Shut up."

Chris grabbed his skull dramatically while crouching on the floor.

Chris(crying): "…Okay…"

Marco sighed heavily beside the wall and rubbed his forehead.

Marco: "…Why are you like this…"

One of the wounded soldiers nearby almost laughed—

but immediately forced himself silent after Guinevere glanced toward him coldly.

The prison slowly became quiet again.

Esabell awkwardly cleared her throat before continuing.

Esabell: "…According to the books…"

The torch beside her crackled softly.

Then—

Esabell slowly turned her eyes toward Princess Flora.

Esabell: "…The angel said one day…"

Another pause.

Even the air itself seemed to wait.

Esabell: "…The Blood of Peace would appear."

Her eyes remained fixed on Flora now.

Steady.

Serious.

Esabell: "…And awaken the sleeping gods."

Silence followed.

A heavy silence.

The torchlight reflected softly within Flora's golden eyes.

Chris slowly stopped smiling.

Marco quietly watched her.

Even Guinevere's expression sharpened slightly from the shadows.

Then quietly—

Esabell added:

Esabell: "…And I think it's you."

Princess Flora remained silent.

Several seconds passed.

Only the distant underground trembling echoed beneath Dumase.

BOOOOOOM—

Tiny stones rolled across the prison floor.

Then softly—

Princess: "…You think that person is me?"

Esabell answered immediately.

Without hesitation.

Esabell: "…Yes."

Princess Flora looked away slightly.

Thinking.

Her eyes slowly lowered toward the cold stone floor.

Esabell continued carefully.

Esabell: "You found six divine bodies at such a young age."

Another pause.

Esabell: "…And…"

She hesitated briefly.

Like she was choosing her next words carefully.

Esabell: "…You've never looked at people with hatred."

Silence.

A strange silence settled across the prison.

Not uncomfortable.

But heavy.

Chris slowly glanced toward Flora now.

Marco too.

Even Guinevere quietly watched her from the darkness near the wall.

Princess Flora said nothing for several moments.

Then finally—

Princess: "…Did the prophecy say anything else?"

Esabell's expression darkened immediately.

Esabell: "…Yes."

A pause.

The torchlight flickered violently for a moment.

Esabell: "…But the rest was written inside the missing pages."

Princess Flora's eyes narrowed slightly.

Thinking.

The Lord's chamber surfaced inside her memory once again.

The endless bookshelves.

The ancient texts.

The forbidden knowledge.

The things the Lord somehow already knew.

Too many things.

Too many secrets.

Her fingers slowly tightened at her side.

Then Princess Flora finally spoke.

Calmly.

Quietly.

Dangerously calm.

Princess: "…The Lord knows too much."

Everyone immediately looked toward her.

Even Chris slowly stood up properly now.

The playful expression on his face had disappeared completely.

Princess Flora slowly lifted her gaze.

Sharp.

Focused.

Princess: "…I think he has the missing Heaven Books."

Chris frowned.

Chris: "…Then what?"

Silence.

The underground trembling echoed once more beneath Dumase.

BOOOOOOOM—

Dust drifted softly through the torchlight.

Then Princess Flora answered quietly—

but firmly.

Princess: "…Then we have to find them."

Esabell blinked.

Esabell: "…How?"

Princess Flora slowly turned toward the darkness ahead of them.

Her golden eyes reflected faintly beneath the flickering flames.

Then—

a faint smile appeared on her face.

Princess: "…I have a way."

The prison fell silent once more.

Only the distant trembling beneath Dumase continued echoing through the darkness.
