The doctor slowly shook his head. For a moment, everything around Sebastian went completely silent. The machines still beeped. Nurses still moved. Voices echoed in the background. But to him, nothing existed.
"Say it," Sebastian said quietly. His voice was controlled, but something dangerous lurked beneath it—something close to breaking.
The doctor exhaled slowly and removed his gloves. "We were able to stabilize her pulse," he began carefully, "but the substance that was injected…" He paused, searching for the right words. "…it has already entered her bloodstream."
Sebastian's jaw tightened. "What does that mean?"
"It means we don't fully understand how it will react inside her system yet." Silence fell again—heavy, unforgiving.
"And the baby?" Sebastian asked. That question hit harder than anything else.
The doctor hesitated briefly, just a second—but it was enough. "The fetus is still alive… but extremely unstable."
