Cherreads

Chapter 11 - The Truth Uncovered

The smell of food filled the house.

Moon stood at the doorway for a moment, quietly watching them.

Rachel was arguing with Jacob over who made the eggs better.

"I'm telling you, mine looks more professional," Rachel said, flipping her hair.

Jacob scoffed. "Professional? It looks like you fought with the egg and lost."

"Excuse me?!"

David laughed from the side. "Honestly, I wouldn't trust either of you with my life."

Andrew leaned against the counter, shaking his head. "This is why I didn't cook."

"That's because you can't cook," Rachel shot back immediately.

"Wow. Betrayal this early in the morning?"

They all burst into laughter.

Mr. and Mrs. Jones sat at the table, simply watching them, amused.

"Are you all always like this?" Mrs. Jones asked, smiling.

"Worse," Jacob replied.

"Much worse," Andrew added.

Moon smiled.

A real one.

It felt normal.

Like nothing had happened.

Like those three days didn't exist.

Then Rachel noticed her.

"Finally!" she exclaimed. "Sleeping beauty has decided to join us."

Everyone turned.

"Moon!"

Jacob was the first to move. "You should have called us."

"I just woke up," she said softly.

Andrew stepped closer, his eyes scanning her face. "How are you feeling?"

Moon nodded. "I'm fine."

And this time—she didn't lie.

Not completely.

Andrew leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her forehead.

"Come and eat," Mrs. Jones said gently. "Before they finish everything."

"That's a lie," Jacob said. "Rachel already finished half."

"Shut up!" Rachel snapped, hitting his arm.

Moon laughed softly and walked over.

She sat down.

The noise continued.

Jokes.

Teasing.

Arguments that didn't matter.

Moon was happy—surrounded by people who loved her.

For the first time in days… she felt safe.

But only on the outside.

Inside—

She was thinking.

Watching.

Planning.

"Are you sure you should be going to school today?" Mrs. Jones asked after a while.

The table went quiet.

Moon didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

Jacob frowned. "Moon—"

"I'm okay," she cut in calmly.

Rachel leaned forward. "At least take one more day—"

"No," Moon said, gentle but firm.

She looked up.

"If I don't go… it means I'm scared."

Silence.

Andrew watched her carefully.

"You're not scared?" he asked quietly.

Moon met his eyes.

A small smile appeared.

"No."

That answer sat heavily in the room.

Because it didn't sound like confidence.

It sounded like something else.

Moon had already told her father what she planned to do…

but he didn't know how far she was willing to go.

Andrew decided to drive them to school.

The ride was noisy again.

Rachel arguing.

Jacob interrupting.

David laughing.

Andrew stayed quiet.

Moon sat beside him, staring out the window.

Her reflection looked back at her.

Calm.

Too calm.

When they arrived at school—

Everything shifted.

Whispers followed her.

"That's her…"

"She's back…"

"I heard she disappeared…"

Moon stepped out like she didn't hear anything.

Head up.

Expression steady.

"Ignore them," Rachel whispered.

"I am," Moon replied.

She walked straight to class like nothing had happened.

Classes came and went.

Then—

Break time.

Moon stood up slowly.

This was it.

She had prepared for this moment.

Every step.

Every word.

She was going to make them confess… by themselves.

Not far from the hallway—

Jenna.

Joseph.

Genesis.

Emmanuel.

Laughing.

Celebrating.

Talking freely.

"We really got rid of her," Jenna said with a smirk.

"She won't be getting in our way again," Genesis added.

Joseph scoffed. "Three days without food and water? She's done for."

Emmanuel shook his head slightly. "We should've just finished it."

Then—

A voice.

"You talk too much."

They froze.

Slowly—

They turned.

And saw her.

Moon.

Alive.

Standing right in front of them.

Shock hit all of them at once.

"You…" Jenna whispered.

Moon tilted her head slightly.

"Me."

Genesis staggered back slightly. "That's not possible…"

Joseph's expression twisted into anger. "How are you still alive?"

Jenna's voice dropped, cold and shaken.

"You're supposed to be dead."

Silence.

Moon smiled.

A calm… dangerous smile.

"Even after locking me up for three days?" she asked softly.

"No food. No water."

She stepped closer.

"You really thought I'd die that easily?"

Joseph snapped. "We should've just killed you!"

Rachel, Jacob, and Andrew froze behind her.

But Moon didn't react.

Not even a little.

Genesis scoffed. "We didn't just want you to suffer…"

He stepped forward.

"We wanted you to suffer to death."

Jenna's voice turned sharp.

"Why can't you just stay dead?"

Moon's smile widened slightly.

"Say that again," she said calmly.

Joseph laughed bitterly.

"You think anyone will believe you?"

"You're stupid if you think we'd ever let you live peacefully."

"You should have died in that room."

Silence.

Then—

Moon laughed.

Soft.

Cold.

"You're right," she said.

"I would've been stupid… if I came alone."

They frowned.

Confused.

Moon slowly reached into her pocket…

And pulled out her phone.

Still live.

Still recording.

Her voice dropped—

And this time, it carried power.

"Everything you just said…"

She lifted the phone slightly.

"…the whole world heard it."

Silence.

Dead silence.

Joseph quickly grabbed his phone.

His face drained of color.

"It's… it's live…" he stammered.

Jenna's expression broke completely.

"Joseph…" she whispered.

"We're screwed."

The words barely left Jenna's mouth before everything exploded.

Students had already started gathering.

Phones were out.

Whispers turned into noise.

Noise turned into chaos.

"What's going on?"

"Is this real?"

"They kidnapped her?!"

Within minutes, the hallway was no longer just a hallway—it was a scene.

Rachel stepped forward immediately, standing beside Moon.

"You're not touching her again," she snapped.

Jacob moved closer too, his fists clenched, his eyes dark with anger.

Andrew didn't say a word.

But the way he stood in front of Moon said everything.

"Enough!"

The voice cut through the noise like a blade.

Everyone turned.

It was the principal.

Teachers rushed in behind him, trying to control the growing crowd.

"What is the meaning of this?" the principal demanded, his sharp eyes moving from Moon… to Jenna… to the Carter brothers.

No one spoke.

Then—

Moon lifted her phone.

"Sir… everything is already recorded."

Silence fell instantly.

The principal stepped closer. "Recorded?"

"It was live," Andrew added calmly. "Everything they said."

Murmurs spread again.

The principal's expression hardened.

"Call the authorities," he said immediately.

One of the teachers nodded and rushed off.

Jenna let out a dry laugh.

"You're all overreacting," she said, crossing her arms. "It's just a misunderstanding."

Joseph quickly stepped in. "Yes, sir. She's twisting things. We didn't—"

"Didn't what?" Moon cut in quietly.

Her voice was calm.

Too calm.

"Didn't lock me up?"

Silence.

Genesis clenched his jaw.

Emmanuel looked away.

"You should be careful," Jenna said coldly. "Accusing people like that—"

Before she could finish—

Joseph snapped.

The hallway went still.

"My family—" he continued angrily, "—you think you can just ruin us like this? Over nothing?"

Jacob stepped forward immediately.

"Nothing?" he repeated, his voice low and dangerous.

"You left her to die."

The tension snapped.

Teachers quickly stepped between them.

"No fighting!" one of them shouted.

Within minutes, sirens were heard outside.

The police had arrived.

The entire atmosphere shifted again.

This wasn't school drama anymore.

This was real.

Two officers stepped in, followed by more behind them.

"Who made the report?" one of them asked.

The principal stepped forward. "I did."

He gestured toward Moon.

"She is the victim."

The officers turned to her.

Moon stepped forward slightly.

"They locked me in a storage room for three days," she said. "No food. No water."

"And you have evidence?"

Moon lifted her phone again.

"Yes."

One of the officers took the phone, reviewing the footage.

His expression changed almost immediately.

He looked up.

"Everyone mentioned in this video—step forward."

Jenna didn't move.

Neither did Joseph.

"You can't be serious," Jenna said, her voice shaking slightly now. "You're just going to believe her like that?"

The officer's tone hardened.

"We're not 'believing' anyone. We're acting on evidence."

Joseph laughed bitterly. "This is ridiculous."

"Put your hands where we can see them."

Silence.

No one moved.

"I said—hands where we can see them."

Slowly… reluctantly… they obeyed.

Students watched in shock.

Some were recording.

Some were whispering.

Some couldn't even speak.

"Do you know who my father is?" Joseph snapped again as an officer stepped closer.

The officer didn't even blink.

"You can tell him at the station."

At that moment—

More voices were heard from the entrance.

"Moon!"

Her parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Jones rushed in, panic still fresh on their faces.

"Are you okay?" her mother asked immediately, holding her.

"I'm fine," Moon said softly.

Mr. Jones turned to the officers.

"I want this case handled properly," he said firmly. "No shortcuts."

The officer nodded. "It's already being processed as a kidnapping case."

Then—

Another set of adults arrived.

Jenna's parents.

The Carter brothers' parents.

Confusion.

Shock.

Denial.

"What is going on here?" one of them demanded.

The principal stepped forward.

"Your children are being accused of kidnapping and unlawful confinement."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unbelievable.

"That's impossible," Jenna's mother said immediately. "My daughter would never—"

"Then you can hear everything at the station," the officer replied.

"Wait—this is too much!" Genesis snapped. "We didn't mean—"

Too late.

Way too late.

The officer signaled.

"Take them."

One by one—

They were pulled forward.

Resisting.

Arguing.

Shouting.

"This isn't over!" Jenna yelled.

"You'll regret this!" Joseph added.

But no one listened anymore.

Not the students.

Not the even the teachers.

As they were led away—

Moon stood still.

Watching.

Calm.

Unshaken.

Rachel exhaled slowly. "It's over…"

Andrew shook his head slightly.

"No," he said quietly.

He looked at Moon.

"This is just the beginning."

And Moon?

She didn't smile.

Not this time.

Because deep down—

She knew exactly what was coming next.
