Chapter 32 - Reunion

I awoke on top of a sweet, soft and warm surface. My head rested on it, and by all means, keep me here. I caressed it with my hand. This is so soft, I love this. What is this? Turning my head against the soft embrace, I peeped a little to find…pink hair.

"Pleibian," a soft voice said, "do you want to lose your head?"

Mm? I know that voice. That soft, girly, arrogant, and self-conceited voice. "Oh, it's you," I turned to look at Maya, then immediately turned away. My lips ever so slightly began to tremble.

It's Maya. So we won, thank the forsaken god.

"Yeah, it's me, pleibian." Maya's voice was shaken; it wasn't as reassured as it usually is. "How are you?"

Is she nervous? haha

"I'm alive."

"I see."

The long-awaited reunion was pretty short. Neither of us knew what to say.

Fuck, what is this situation? Usually, I'd never be this shy, but I haven't seen her in so long, and all my emotions from when I couldn't see her. They're running around the place, fuck. Plus, I'm on her lap, a lap pillow! It feels so nice.

God, thank you for always favouring me. I don't know what to say.

"I-im glad you're fine…too" fuck my cheeks are burning.

I could hear her smile, then she placed her hand on my hair and began stroking it.

"Thanks to you and your people, I'm fine. You know what they say, commoners always work hard when a noble is at risk."

"What does that even mean? You will never let go of this stuff, will you?" I said with a scoff.

I turned to face her, but still I refused to make eye contact.

"Hehehe, it's true, and you can't deny it."

This girl, what is she even saying? She isn't above making inappropriate comments, but this one feels a little sloppy, and I don't feel like scolding her. Not today, at least.

She laughed sheepishly, but joyfully at the same time. Slowly, my eyes pulled towards her. Maya smiled, a little smile, rather cute, her cheeks tinged red.

I guess that is Maya for you.

"The same noble who got herself kidnapped? Honestly, you need to know how to take care of yourself better."

She jumped slightly at my words.

"You people this, commoner that, but you can't do nothing without us."

She froze, then her expression shifted slightly, and in her signature move, Maya left her mouth open slightly. Frozen for a sec, she thought through my words.

Looking at her from this close, she is beautiful. Her flushed cheeks matched well with her vibrant pink. Even though she got kidnapped, her skin looked as flawless as always.

With a heavy sigh, she gave up smiling at me with a light chuckle. Then she held my face and stroked my hair as our eyes locked. Her emerald eyes were dazzling in the moonlight.

"Yeah, I can't. So protect me next time, okay?"

"...."

For I don't know how long, I froze. What did Maya say? And what does that mean? If she thinks I am that capable, then I will do it, by all means. I have no experience guarding anyone, but I think if I can keep pushing myself, I should be fine. Waahh…at this rate, I could feel my face heating up.

"Yeah, I will. Just let me know."

Tears slowly dripped from her face onto mine. She cried so silently, but I could hear every last hiccup as she struggled to hold back her tears.

I grabbed her by the shoulder, gently rubbing it. "Maya…I promise, I will be there, always. So, it's okay."

"It's okay to cry, you did well." She was kidnapped for days all by herself. I am surprised she hadn't been in a more miserable state. She really has grown since the day I met her.

Maya didn't leave much of an impression other than that of a girl who had just been extremely unfortunate. Losing her family, friends and the life she had known in a single night. Anyone would crumble after that.

Now she is a very strong person. I'd love to stand beside.

She nodded but couldn't stop her tears. I watched her tears grow stronger and fall as if it were raining.

"I-i. papa…I made it."

With those little words spoken. Maya began to wail.

I didn't know what else to say or do. But right now, I don't think I should.
