A creature who was acutely aware of its surroundings, capable of effortlessly dispatching monster type creatures, has a presence that evoked a instinctive fear within him just by sensing it or being nearby—this creature, immense in stature, rivaling that of a grizzly bear, epitomized true predation.
And that said creature had turned it's gaze directed toward him,how could he not feel a sense of despair and helplessness in the situation,a nervous laugh escaped his lips while he continued running. From the outset of this whole trial, he had been in a constant flight, and every time he attempted to stand his ground, he ended up barely clinging to life. Yet he understood that this time would be different; if the creature closed in on him, he wouldn't merely be half-dead—he would be left in a far worse condition.
Grrrrrrr
A deep, thunderous growl reverberated across the terrain. He dashed toward a ridge lined with trees and snow on the mountain wall, larger than the previous one he had used to conceal himself. Relying on his heightened senses, he abandoned the futile pretense of hiding; since he had been discovered and was now being pursued, he figured using his keen perception to gain an edge would be more beneficial. However, even that seemed inadequate.
The chase had persisted for nearly an hour, and he found himself in dire straits. The only reason he had yet to be captured and could still flee was the initial distance he had managed to maintain. Although he had begun at a relatively safe distance, that advantage had diminished, leaving him running without any clear escape routes or hideouts. He was undeniably in a desperate situation, with seemingly no conscious means to change it.
As he continued fleeing, his senses were attuned to tracking the creature's movements, and its attributes once more bore a resemblance to an animal from his world, yet it featured unusual traits. It resembled a cougar, known to some as a mountain lion, but this one boasted horns akin to those of the goats—a peculiar hybrid of sorts, and all this information flooded his mind in mere moments while he ran. Knowing he had to find a way to higher ground, he decided to attempt scaling the mountain wall. Climbing along a certain steep section of the ledge seemed plausible, and he decided to take the risk, weaving through the trees, despite the knowledge that such cover would likely prove futile against an apex predator.
For several minutes, he steered through the underbrush, remaining vigilant to the creature's movements. A sudden maneuver from the beast sent a wave of dread through him; he had been discerning a dark figure cutting through the bright field of essence, with a few clusters of white intermingling with it, and he quickly recognized it as the hybrid creature, and then In a shocking turn, the dark shape began to blend seamlessly into the surrounding essence energy, transforming into a white mass as if it were merging with the essence itself. This revelation momentarily stunned him; he hadn't realized that concealment could be achieved through essence energy this way.
In Troy, concealment was a matter of muting one's mana and movement, a tactic that would have been useless against him since he could still sense the being interacting with the ambient mana. But this hybrid had turned the usual approach on its head, merging with the essence itself, leaving him flabbergasted.
Yet, he pressed on; despite this newfound technique rendering portions of his unique ability nearly ineffective, he still retained his natural instincts and senses, though they too were bound to falter.
With his abilities seemingly failing him, he stopped surveying his surroundings and concentrated on the path up the mountain, but the creature was also clever.
Now that the little creature it was chasing initial advantage had evaporated, it zeroed in on him with full intent.
As El ran, he felt a shadow stretching ominously on his left side. He glanced quickly, his grey eyes narrowing into tiny dots,as he spotted a massive paw, its claws as large as his head, advancing towards him. Not a whisper of warning reached him—no shift in the surrounding essence, nothing at all—it appeared like a ghost, ethereal and silent. It struck without hesitation, tearing through his snake-skin tunic and propelling him violently into a nearby tree, which shuddered under the impact.
He lay on his side from the crash, blood seeping from the savage gash, the pain searing beyond comprehension. He could feel the flesh that had been ripped away, the sensation echoing in his mind. Though disoriented, either driven by sheer instinct or stubborn will, he struggled to rise to a kneeling position, still attempting to regain his footing. Meanwhile, the hybrid beast circled him, its hot breath exhaling through its nostrils as it savored the scent of his blood, consumed by an urge to kill and feast.
However, a swift object suddenly flew towards it, catching the creature off guard. A glowing arrow struck true, though the beast managed to twist mid-motion, the projectile piercing its jaw instead of its eye. It turned its gaze toward the direction from which the arrow came and found the small creature—who should have appeared frail and on the brink of death—gripping a wooden construct, aimed defiantly at it.
While El was struggling to rise, he perceived the hybrid creature distracted and took a calculated risk, summoning [essence arrow]in a desperate attempt to fight back. With no escape in sight, he had no choice.
The hybrid's fury surged; though clever, it was still ultimately ruled by instinct, and in this moment, it craved to make the little creature suffer. It lunged once more, its paws striking with blinding speed, sending
El hurtling backwards. This time, as he crashed against a wall, resignation settled in—he could find no way out. Regret washed over him as he mentally apologized to all he had known as he had failed and was going to die, bracing for the impact.
But shockingly, he shattered through the wall and plunged into a darkness that swallowed him whole.
Everything happened so fast that both El and the hybrid were momentarily stunned. The creature attempted to follow him into the abyss, but the space was either too small or itself was simply too large; in either case, its fury intensified, realizing its prey had escaped.
Yet it was unwilling to surrender entirely.
The hybrid would roam its territory, scouring each corner for the one who had eluded its grasp; it would find him, and it would feast on him—after all, it was the sovereign of this mountain.
