Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7: Snake pit

Weakly, he brought his hands together performing the "Añjali Mudrā" in a posture reminiscent of prayer and, using his very existence as a conduit, called upon the cosmos.

Abruptly, an indescribable, ancient presence loomed over him, its indifferent gaze making him feel utterly insignificant. This was the second time he had encountered such a sensation, and even now, he found it unsettling. Shoving aside the discomfort, he articulated his restrictions and new effects, a wave of foreboding washing over him at the thought that this might be his only avenue of escape. If it failed, he knew he would lose all hope. Fortunately, it was accepted; the binding seal was enacted with the stipulation that:

.

In the cosmos, energy itself is neutral, especially essence, which is closest to the primordial forces that shaped the creation known as the cosmos. It is our existence that imparts meaning to energy, altering its inherent properties. As that essence transformed within him, so too did his body—his muscles grew weak and somewhat slack, yet a newfound vitality surged within him. The parasite, sensing this sudden shift in its food source, was caught off guard, allowing the essence to engage fully in battle, eagerly igniting a combustion that targeted the root embedded in his body.

The root recoiled, and the essence intensified its process of purification. However, being firmly anchored within him, the root caused excruciating pain, nearly prompting a scream from his lips. After what felt like minutes or perhaps an hour, a warm sensation began to envelop him, reminiscent of being cocooned in a cozy bed meant for slumber.

Shaking off this comfort, he steeled himself; he needed to remain conscious, to flee this place. Rising to his feet, his muscles twitched involuntarily, a testament to the strain of his ordeal, but his essence tirelessly mended his wounds while his mind felt utterly drained. He had to keep moving.

As he turned away from the forest, he sensed the monster lurking behind him, having ceased its laughter and now merely observing, yet its inability to act offered him a flicker of relief as he departed. The pollen that sought to cling to him was swiftly incinerated by his essence before it could make contact with his body, and with that, he left the expanse of purple flowers behind.

Turning his gaze back towards the blooms, he considered their potential utility for his schemes. His plans had shifted, and he alone knew the designs that might be deemed insane by an ordinary individual. Yet, no one was around, and no one would witness the unfolding of events—only he and the cosmos shared in this secret...for now.

An hour had passed since El had managed to escape from the field of deadly flowers, and he had begun to move away from the scene of the horror. Most of his injuries had largely healed, leaving only bloodstains on his black, long-sleeved, buttoned shirt, which now bore darker patches than its original hue.

A few stings persisted in his eyes, and a ringing sensation echoed in his ears. Mentally, he felt drained, a relentless headache pounding away at him. Yet, apart from that discomfort, he was holding up—though in truth, he was far from fine. Pain radiated through his body, a level of distress he was not accustomed to; this surpassed his usual threshold.

Exhausted and gripped by paranoia, El's thoughts spiraled. What if the monster sought him out? What if it discovered another route to track him down? He knew with certainty that if such a scenario unfolded, he would not survive. Even beyond the specter of the creature, the forest was rife with perilous beings; indeed, the very woods themselves could be his demise.

He moved with caution, striving to minimize any noise that could attract unwanted attention, but it was a challenge. His mind was sluggish, concentration elusive, and he felt utterly lost, without a clue as to how to return to the cave. It seemed the universe conspired against him, denying him any hope of respite.

As he trudged onward in search of an open space devoid of lethal flora—or anything dangerous for that matter—he caught a faint, hissing sound to his right. Overcome by a curiosity that he likely should not have indulged, he followed the sound.

Eventually, he encountered a creature that resembled a snake, unlike anything he had ever seen in the forest before, suggesting they were either hiding away or perhaps the last of its kind. It had a slimy, dark black-scaled body, and while it appeared snake-like, it had four tiny legs yet still glided across the forest floor with serpentine grace. He observed it for a while as it seemed to sense the surroundings before it vanished into the ground, as if it had discovered a hidden burrow.

He hesitated for a few moments, contemplating whether to approach that spot—wasn't this what he had originally sought out before the whole deadly affair began: an edible creature? He wasn't sure if it was safe to eat, but his curiosity compelled him to take the risk.

Cautiously, he stepped toward the area where the creature had disappeared and squatted beside the earth it had disturbed. Just as he was about to dig, the ground beneath him softened abruptly, causing him to tumble downwards. Fortunately, the fall wasn't deep. Once he regained his footing, he scanned his surroundings, noticing the hole was clearly deliberate, with thick walls of dirt resembling a sturdy concrete structure. This suggested that it had been excavated by a clever entity.

As if to validate his theory, a chorus of hissing sounds echoed in this eerie well, and numerous snake-like creatures, akin to the first one he had encountered, began to emerge from the walls, filling the space around him. They halted in place, the only indication of their vitality being the persistent hissing that made it clear they remained a serious threat.

He pushed his abilities to their limits, enduring the intense pain coursing through him as his perception sharpened and his thoughts raced. He urgently brainstormed an escape plan; after all, even if they weren't true snakes, these creatures could possess venomous stings or bites, and he had no desire to find that out firsthand. But life rarely grants us what we wish for, as the creatures wasted no time and surged toward him all at once, enveloping him in a mass of slick bodies. There was no room to maneuver or escape, and he was quickly overwhelmed, consumed by the swarm of serpentine beings.

As he felt the stings piercing his skin, panic surged through him, leading him to scream,

"Aaaarrrgghh!"

A strange sensation then coursed through his body with each bite, and in an instant, darkness enveloped him, plunging him into unconsciousness.
