Chapter 18 - chapter 18The Awakening of the Shadow Queen

Zarith's rage finally erupted like a volcano. He let out a roar so thunderous that it pierced through the palace walls, echoing far into the distance.

The Scene:

As Zarith's fury broke, the terrifying sound sent tremors through the entire palace. It wasn't just Amunet who trembled; Kael's ten maids in the distance and Zarith's own servants shivered in pure terror. Kael's maids glanced at one another, whispering, 'Lord Zarith's wrath signifies a catastrophe. There is no salvation for the Queen tonight.' Meanwhile, Zarith's servants stood frozen like stone, knowing all too well how ruthless he could become when provoked. Sitting in his own chambers, Kael heard the echo, and his heart sank—he knew instantly that Amunet was in grave danger. That single roar seemed to turn the very air of the palace heavy and poisonous.

Zarith's rage had now blinded his reason. Ignoring everything, he suddenly jerked Amunet toward him. He wound his fingers through her silken hair, gripping it tightly to force her to look directly into his eyes.

Amunet gasped in pain, but Zarith did not relent. He pulled her flush against him and leaned into her ear, his voice dropping to a low, venomous hiss:

'Did you think you could carry someone else's touch and stand before me in my own kingdom? Remember, Amunet, every drop of blood in your veins belongs to me. I can destroy you a thousand times more than I can love you. If I hear Kael's name from your lips again before sunrise, I will hang his head from the palace gates.'

The heat of his breath and the brutal tug on her hair shattered Amunet from within. She realized that Zarith was no longer just a lover; he had transformed into a terrifying monster." Zarith's rage slowly morphed into a dark, terrifying obsession. In that moment of brutal confrontation, his hand began to assert its dominance over Amunet. He touched her just below her chest, where her heart was hammering against her ribs in pure terror. Then, slowly—excruciatingly slowly—he moved his hand down toward her stomach.

There was no love in his touch; it was purely about control and possession. He was making it clear to Amunet that he was the sole master of her body. Amunet felt paralyzed, her breath catching in her throat. Zarith leaned in and whispered against her ear once more:

"Did Kael dare to touch you like this? Does he have the courage to claim what belongs to me? Amunet, tonight will be a night you'll never forget."

Amunet closed her eyes, trembling uncontrollably. She realized Zarith was using his physical power to break her spirit completely. In that dark room, the only sounds were Zarith's heavy breathing and Amunet's stifled sobs. Amunet looked directly into his eyes and spoke with a trembling yet firm voice, "You are not Seth... Seth doesn't have wings. But you have wings, you have a tail. Then who are you? What are you really?"

At her observation, Zarith suddenly stopped. A demonic smile spread across his face. He pulled her even closer, his pupils narrowing like those of a serpent. He whispered—

"So, you finally noticed? I am the ancient darkness that even the gods fear. I am not a mere entity, Amunet. I am the nightmare you chose to love. These wings and this tail are but a fraction of my true form."

Amunet realized that the one she had loved as 'Seth' was something much larger and more sinister. With Zarith's mysterious identity revealed, she felt as though she were sinking into a bottomless abyss.Zarith's voice shifted. It no longer sounded entirely human; it was like a deep echo rising from the depths of the earth. Standing still in response to Amunet's question, he stared directly into her eyes.

He spread his wings slightly, and his tail lashed against the floor in the dark. In a calm yet chilling voice, he said:

"You want to know who I am? I will tell you. But remember, Amunet—what you are seeing right now, this face, these wings, this tail—this IS my true face. I am wearing no mask. I am the ancient entity that mortals dare not look upon. 'Seth' was merely a name you used, but this form is my eternal truth."

Amunet watched as Zarith's features took on an otherworldly and terrifying beauty in the moonlight. His words pierced her ears like venom. He made it clear that he wasn't just a sorcerer or a warrior; he was a living curse with no end.Zarith's words struck Amunet like a bolt of lightning. The temperature in the room seemed to drop to freezing levels instantly. Zarith gripped her chin, forcing her to look into his glowing eyes.

With a sinister yet majestic smile, he declared:

"I am not some mere demon or dark spirit, Amunet. I am a 'God'. These wings and this tail are fragments of an ancient power that mortals cannot even comprehend. I am the god whom history has forgotten, but whom the darkness still obeys."

As he claimed his divinity, a strange black aura began to radiate from his body. He wanted Amunet to understand the vast difference: Kael is just a mortal man, but Zarith is eternal. He left Amunet standing at the terrifying crossroads of fear and forced devotion. At Amunet's question, Zarith's sinister smile widened. He leaned in so close that his breath felt like venom against her ear. His wings cast a massive, looming shadow against the walls.

In a low, haunting whisper, he said:

"You want to know my name? The name that once made the world tremble? I am 'Apophis'—the ancient god of darkness and chaos, whom even the sun fears. 'Zarith' and 'Seth' are merely masks I wear for this era."

He continued, his voice dripping with mockery, "Now tell me, Amunet—can the love of a mere mortal stand against the wrath of a god? Do you still believe your Kael can protect you from me?"

Amunet stood frozen. Hearing the name 'Apophis' made her blood run cold. She realized she wasn't just caught in a sorcerer's trap; she was ensnared by the god of destruction himself When Amunet heard that the entity before her was actually Apophis, the ancient god of chaos, it felt as if the ground had vanished beneath her feet. A sharp, paralyzing terror took hold of her entire body.

The Scene:

Amunet stared at Zarith (Apophis) with wide, trembling eyes. She felt as though the oxygen in the room was running out. Shaking uncontrollably, she began to step backward, one step at a time. Zarith's massive wings and dark silhouette seemed to be swallowing the entire room.

Stammering in fear, Amunet whispered, "No... this can't be... You are not a god, you are a curse!"

Every time she tried to back away, Zarith advanced toward her with predatory slowness. The sound of his tail dragging across the floor created a bone-chilling hiss. As Amunet backed up until she hit the cold stone wall, she realized she had nowhere left to run. Zarith slammed his hands against the wall on either side of her, trapping her, and brought his dark, glowing face inches from hers. As Amunet pressed against the wall, trembling in fear, Apophis's rage transformed into a dark, suffocating obsession. He gave her no room to breathe.

The Scene:

Apophis loomed over her, his presence overwhelming. His touch was no longer rough, but deathly cold. He first pressed his lips against Amunet's forehead. There was no purity in that kiss; it was a mark of ancient, dark possession. Amunet closed her eyes and shuddered, feeling a freezing chill race down her spine.

He didn't stop there. With agonizing slowness, he trailed his lips down from her forehead. His breath hitched against her skin as he finally reached and touched her lips.

This touch felt like a seal—as if he were claiming her soul forever and erasing every lingering memory of Kael. Amunet stood paralyzed, feeling less like a beloved and more like a sacrifice trapped in the web of a terrifying god. After paralyzing Amunet with his deathly touch, Apophis (Zarith) suddenly stepped back. A demonic, thunderous laughter erupted from his throat, shattering the silence of the dark room.

The Scene:

That laughter was not human; it was the laughter of a victor, echoing through every corner of the palace. Apophis spread his massive wings as he laughed, clearly relishing his absolute control over the situation.

He spoke through his laughter in a rasping, chilling voice:

"Look at yourself, Amunet! Do you still think you can find sanctuary in the love of a mere mortal? The terror I see in your eyes is my strength. You may love Kael, but your soul is now a prisoner to the echo of my laughter!"

The sound of his mockery pierced Amunet's ears like arrows. She realized that Apophis didn't just want to scare her he was finding a twisted pleasure in her helplessness. Hearing that terrifying laughter from outside, the maids covered their ears in horror, and Kael knew that the torment of Amunet had reached its peak.Amunet's words instantly shifted the power dynamic in the room. Despite her tears, a sudden strength surged through her. She stood tall, meeting Apophis's gaze head-on.

The Scene:

Wiping away her tears, Amunet spoke in a calm yet resolute voice:

"Call yourself a god or the darkness itself but remember, I am not ordinary either. I am the 'Shadow Queen'. If darkness resides within you, then the power to command that darkness flows through my veins as well. You may terrify me, but you cannot erase who I am."

At this declaration, Apophis's laughter died down instantly. A flicker of surprise crossed his face. He realized that Amunet wasn't just his prey; she was a force capable of rivaling him within the very shadows he claimed to rule. A faint, shadowy aura began to radiate from Amunet, proving that she was finally embracing her true identity.
