[Chapter 156: Amy Woke Up]
"Do we need to leave?" Amy's father asked.
"No need." Daniel had already reached the bedside.
With a flick of his hand, an Elixir appeared in his palm -- it was the Soul Condensing Elixir.
Daniel pressed it to Amy's lips.
Amy's mother opened her mouth to remind him that Amy couldn't eat right now, but Amy's father gently pulled her back and shook his head.
"Mr. Cross will handle it," he whispered.
Amy's mother nodded nervously and said nothing more.
The Soul Condensing Elixir dissolved on its own inside Amy's mouth, releasing its healing power to nourish her soul.
However, it would typically take at least a day or two for her to absorb it naturally.
Daniel wasn't willing to wait.
He helped Amy sit up and pressed his palm against her, channeling his mana to speed her absorption of the medicine.
Last time, it had taken him over forty minutes to help Katherine absorb the same medicinal power. But Amy's soul damage was much more severe -- forty minutes was clearly not enough.
Time passed gently, slowly inching by. At the forty-minute mark, Amy still hadn't woken up, but her complexion had improved slightly.
This small change brought joy to Amy's parents.
More time passed, and only after an hour and twenty minutes did Daniel finally withdraw his hand.
Amy was still unconscious.
Amy's mother went pale. "Did... did it fail?"
Daniel shook his head. "Wait a little longer."
"Okay, okay..." Amy's mother nodded, clinging to hope.
Amy's father tried to stay calm, but his nervousness showed.
Hunter couldn't sit still and paced back and forth in the room.
...
Then a few minutes later, Amy's eyelids fluttered.
"She... she moved!" Hunter exclaimed.
Everyone rushed over.
Amy's fingers twitched slightly, then her eyelids trembled again.
Under the group's hopeful and surprised gazes, her eyes slowly opened.
She looked around in confusion, but soon the light returned to her eyes.
"Dad, Mom, Hunter... what happened to me?"
"Amy, you finally woke up."
Her parents stepped forward and pulled her into their arms.
Hunter tried to join in but couldn't get close, so he stood behind her and wrapped his arms around her back.
Before Amy could cry, the three of them were already tearing up.
Especially Amy's mother, who broke down completely.
Amy still looked dazed. "What exactly is going on? I feel like I had a really long dream -- like I did all sorts of strange, incredible, weird things. What happened to me?"
"I'm sorry, Amy," her father said, guilt heavy in his voice. "Dad didn't take good care of you..."
...
Daniel didn't want to watch the emotional scene anymore, so he quietly turned and left the room.
Amy's family was nothing like Frank Douglas. They weren't even close -- nor were they on Daniel's level now.
Still, their net worth was probably over ten million dollars, and their home was quite nice.
Daniel wandered into the garden for a closer look.
Since discovering the soul-nurturing flower at the Douglas house, he had developed a habit of checking out other peoples' gardens.
Unfortunately, so far, he hadn't found anything valuable.
Amy's family's garden was the same -- just ordinary plants and at best a few pricey varieties.
Nothing Daniel wanted.
...
"Mr. Cross," Hunter called, walking over. "Amy's parents want to see you."
Daniel followed Hunter back to Amy's room.
Amy's father introduced him: "Amy, this is Mr. Cross -- the one who saved you."
Although Amy was awake, her complexion was pale and she looked very weak. No surprise -- she'd been living on a feeding tube of liquid nutrition.
"Thank you, Mr. Cross," Amy said gratefully. "Thank you for saving me."
Daniel smiled. "You should thank Hunter and your parents the most. Without Hunter, I wouldn't have been able to remove the thing attached to you. And without your parents, you wouldn't have had the patience to wait for me to find a way to wake you up."
Hunter's mouth curled into a grateful smile, his eyes shining as he looked at Daniel.
'Mr. Cross is really a great person,' he thought. 'A good man like him is exactly what Scarlett should hold onto. She must never give him up.'
Hunter spoke aloud: "I love Amy, and I'm willing to do anything for her."
Amy's parents exchanged satisfied looks.
"Thank you, Hunter," Amy said, full of gratitude.
"No need, Amy," Hunter said, stepping forward to take her hand. "As long as I see you getting better, everything I do is worth it."
Tears sprang to Amy's eyes.
Amy's mother wiped her eyes, and even Amy's father's eyes glistened red.
Ahem. Daniel cleared his throat. "Amy, do you remember how you ended up like this?"
Amy looked scared, then embarrassed. "I was playing Mirror Spirtis Game."
Daniel shook his head. "From now on, stay away from games like that -- not just the Mirror Spirtis Game, but all spirit-channeling games."
"I'll never play any spirit-channeling games again," Amy promised quickly.
Daniel smiled but said nothing more. Whether she played or not was up to her.
He turned to Amy's father. "Amy's body is still very weak. Let her rest for a while. It will take some time. Or you can purchase an Elixir from me to speed her recovery."
Amy's father asked eagerly, "That would be great! How much?"
"$100,000," Daniel said.
Without hesitation, Amy's father agreed. "That's fine."
Daniel took out the Spirit Transformation Elixir.
Amy's father asked, "Can she take it now?"
"Yes."
Almost immediately, Amy's pale complexion began to flush with color, her energy visibly improving.
Not only Amy herself was amazed, but her parents were shocked by the miraculous change. Only Hunter wasn't surprised; he'd taken this kind of Elixir before and knew how powerful it was.
Hunter smiled. "Amy, this won't just make you feel better -- it'll improve your skin too."
"Really?" Amy brightened with pleasant surprise.
Amy's mother leaned in. "Will it really make her skin better?"
Hunter nodded. "Yes. My sister and mother both took it -- it works wonders."
Amy's mother quickly turned to Daniel. "Mr. Cross, I want one too."
Amy's father cleared his throat. "Make that two."
Within moments, Amy's family was filled with joy.
And a check for $1.3 million found its way into Daniel's pocket.
...
At noon, Amy's mother cooked her specialty: roasted pineapple steak. The sweet, tangy pineapple blended perfectly with the rich, savory beef -- a delicious combination.
Seeing Daniel enjoy the meal, Amy's mother smiled happily.
"Mr. Cross," Amy's father suddenly asked, "can you find people?"
