The room had settled into a quiet that felt earned.

Nothing in the space had changed physically, yet something had shifted in a way neither of them needed to name. The aftermath of what had passed between them still lingered, not as tension, but as a steady awareness that had not yet faded.

Lucian stood near the far side of the room, his posture composed, his attention no longer fixed on Julian in the open way it had been before. He had given the space distance, but not absence. It was deliberate, controlled, the kind of positioning that allowed him to observe without intruding.

Julian remained near the couch, one hand resting loosely against the backrest. The mark at his neck had already begun to fade, but he could still feel it, a quiet reminder that had not fully left his body.

For a moment, nothing moved.
