"The second half is about to begin. The score is still 0:0, but in terms of the numbers, Manchester City have the advantage across the board."
"Although Leo Lin's return from injury has improved Liverpool's midfield, he still needs more time to adjust to the team's current state and find a way to help them break out of this slump."
Throughout the first half, Leo Lin had been thinking. The biggest dilemma was that he wanted to attack, but he could not feel enough drive or transition speed from the teammates around him.
On the left, Mané was alone against Kyle Walker and could not gain much of an advantage. In a one on one, Walker was no weaker than Mané in either speed or strength. Even if he could not completely shut Mané down, he could at least stop him from creating chances.
Shaqiri was also having a hard time against the physically powerful French full back, Mendy.
Although Shaqiri was quicker in rhythm, Mendy's physical qualities were too strong. In particular, his long legs meant he could always poke the ball away from Shaqiri in unexpected ways.
With the wings unable to open things up, Firmino in the middle was basically trapped. Apart from occasionally dropping back to receive a pass from Leo Lin, he felt no support from his teammates the rest of the time.
Laporte and Stones had Firmino completely locked down.
Klopp adjusted the team's tactical structure. Different players needed different tactical approaches.
The 15 minutes passed quickly, and both teams returned to the pitch.
The confidence on the Manchester City players' faces was obvious. On the other side, Liverpool, who had looked a little subdued in the first half, also seemed to have a different atmosphere now.
Leo Lin pulled the Captain's armband higher up his arm while talking with Firmino. No one knew what the two of them were discussing.
"Beep!"
"The match resumes. Neither side has made any substitutions."
"Liverpool kick off first and play it to Leo Lin, who will carry the ball and organize the attack."
"Liverpool's shape has changed. Wijnaldum's position is starting to push forward, while Rodri remains deeper to provide cover."
Leo Lin received the ball and quickly played it back to Rodri. Immediately after that, Arnold began to push forward, while on the other side, Robertson sprinted up the pitch, charging toward Kyle Walker together with Mané.
The two of them tried to create a numerical advantage on the flank. Manchester City's formation also pressed forward, carrying out a high press. Guardiola was copying Klopp's pressing style, giving Liverpool no space to play out from the back.
In the 52nd minute.
"Manchester City have been pressing high the whole time. They're playing with real confidence. In fact, they've left some space behind them for Liverpool, but under this pressure, Liverpool can't find the right passing lane."
"Arnold has the ball and plays it back to the goalkeeper. Mignolet pauses briefly, takes a look, then sends it out to the left."
"There are reports that Liverpool have begun initial contact with Roma over their young Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson. They may make a move in the winter transfer window, though Alisson's current price tag is not cheap."
Robertson had already pushed high up the pitch and was making runs down the left with Mané, but Mignolet still passed the ball toward the left side.
At that moment, it was not Robertson receiving it on the left. It was Van Dijk.
Liverpool's back line had shifted into a three man shape.
Van Dijk moved to the left, Ocho was in the middle, and Arnold was on the right. The distance between the three defenders was extremely wide.
On the surface, it looked full of gaps. In reality, it gave Liverpool more room to breathe.
With the spacing so wide, Manchester City's players had to follow the ball over greater distances in order to press.
Sterling and Agüero changed direction again and rushed toward the left. Van Dijk paused slightly, then played it back once more to Mignolet.
This time, Mignolet did not hesitate. With one touch, he found Ocho in front of him.
As Ocho received the ball, he turned and drove forward with long strides. Agüero had already left the center forward position to press Van Dijk, leaving the central area of Manchester City's front line unguarded. Space had opened up.
Ocho did not pause at all. He used that space to carry the ball forward.
This was Klopp's halftime adjustment. He wanted Ocho to become the driving force from the back.
Although Ocho's front foot defending still needed improvement, his physical attributes were strong. His turning speed was slow, but his straight line speed was quite good.
Agüero chased back, but Ocho had already pushed close to the halfway line. Liverpool's entire defensive and midfield block moved forward with him, instantly cutting Manchester City's entire front line out of the battlefield and creating a three line attack against City's two lines.
Leo Lin immediately ran back and raised his hand for the ball, drawing Fernandinho's attention. David Silva also rushed toward Leo Lin, preparing to double team him.
Ocho passed the ball, but not to Leo Lin, who was calling for it. That was only a way to draw pressure. The player who actually received Ocho's pass was Rodri, the deep lying organizer.
Rodri received the ball, turned again, and pushed forward once more. Liverpool's midfield line advanced with him again.
In an instant, Manchester City's midfield line was also cut out of the battlefield.
Liverpool had created a two line against one line advantage in Manchester City's defensive third.
Klopp's modified layered attacking system for the new season had worked.
By the time Manchester City reacted, Liverpool's two lines had already reached the area around the penalty box.
Leo Lin turned and accelerated again, using his speed to shake off David Silva. At the same time, he gave Fernandinho a light push with his hand, stopping him from keeping up.
Rodri carried the ball to the edge of the arc and played it left. As Wijnaldum received the ball, there was no one beside him closing him down. Manchester City's defense had been dismantled.
He adjusted with one step, lifted his foot, and shot from distance.
Stones kept both hands behind his back and blocked Wijnaldum's shot with his chest. The ball deflected to the left. Mané received it facing Walker, but he did not force the dribble. Instead, he sent another pass straight down the line.
Robertson pushed forward decisively, took the ball, and crossed.
A beautiful curling ball flew toward the far post.
Laporte kept his eyes locked on Firmino. He was sure he had not lost his man.
Mendy kept his eyes locked on Shaqiri. He was also sure he had not lost his man.
But the tiny space that opened between the two of them was taken by Leo Lin, who had arrived late from deep.
Watching the dropping point of Robertson's cross, Leo Lin used the momentum of his run to leap. Facing the goal, he snapped his head forward fiercely, almost like a sudden nod, and smashed Robertson's pass into the net.
A cannonball header.
Ederson had no chance.
Anfield, silent for so long, finally came alive again.
"That ball! It's in!"
"A header!"
"Leo Lin's explosive header changes the score. Liverpool score first!"
"In his first match back from injury, Leo Lin makes the difference for the team. This is the strength of the 180 million pound man!"
"No one expected them to score first. Liverpool, oh Liverpool, are you really a phoenix that refuses to die?"
"After playing like this, after four matches without a win, they've actually taken a one goal lead in a direct clash against their title rivals. The score is now 1:0!"
"In the live Premier League table, Liverpool have overtaken Manchester City and reclaimed top spot, leading by one point!"
After scoring, Leo Lin rushed toward the stands and kissed the club crest in front of all the celebrating Liverpool fans.
He kept pointing at the crest, then at the Liverpool fans, shouting at the top of his lungs.
The Liverpool fans could not hear him. The cheers were simply too loud. But a cameraman brought the lens close to Leo Lin for a close up, and finally picked up his roar.
"Anfield is my home!"
"Anfield is my home!"
"I will protect my home!"
