Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: A Wild Riolu

Inside the monitoring room.

Hundreds of screens—large and small—filled the entire wall.

More than ninety percent of them displayed live footage transmitted from the freshmen's positioning devices, recording their exploration routes and battle processes for point calculation and evaluation.

Each Teacher was responsible for monitoring a fixed group of students.

Some watched three to five.

Others monitored more than ten.

Meanwhile, several "special" surveillance screens were assigned dedicated staff.

For example—

Ye Feng, the son of a Champion.

The nephew of an Elite.

Their treatment was on a completely different level.

While Counselor Chen Ning was paying close attention to Chen Ran, she was also responsible for several other gifted students from Class Three, including Wen Xiaoke and the son of a Gym Leader.

Just as Chen Ning finished watching Wen Xiaoke's battle, she casually switched back to Chen Ran's feed.

The moment she saw the screen—

She froze.

Then her eyes widened.

"…Holy—"

"Riolu?!"

"A wild Riolu?!"

"…?!"

For a brief moment—

The entire monitoring room went silent.

Then everyone turned to look at Chen Ning.

"What did you say?"

"Wild Riolu?!"

"Where did it appear?! Where?!"

"…!"

"Is Ye Feng nearby?"

Chen Ning pointed at Chen Ran's live feed, still in disbelief.

"I only looked away for a moment, and Chen Ran already subdued a wild Riolu?!"

This luck—

Wasn't it too outrageous?!

The moment they realized what had happened, many counselors, teachers, and school leaders felt their hearts ache.

Riolu.

One of the top three Pokémon most coveted by Trainers in the Dragon Kingdom.

Loyal.

Brave.

Explosively powerful.

A Pokémon that made people feel safe just by standing beside it.

In the wild, it was almost impossible to encounter a lone Riolu. Most followed adult Lucario, and even then, taming one was incredibly difficult.

Among the hundreds of millions of Trainers in the Dragon Kingdom, there were fewer than a hundred who possessed Riolu or Lucario.

The probability was terrifyingly low.

For a moment—

The entire monitoring room was filled with the sour scent of jealousy.

Whether old teachers or young teachers, all of them were silently envious of Chen Ran.

That was Riolu!

"Heh, isn't it just a thousand points?"

A teacher who had been focused on Ye Feng's feed scoffed lightly, his tone clearly off.

It was hard to tell whether he was sighing—or dissatisfied.

Chen Ning felt her ears sting.

At that moment—

The large screen in the monitoring room refreshed automatically.

The real-time ranking appeared.

With 4,500 points, Chen Ran had surged past countless second-generation students and taken first place among all freshmen, forming a clear gap.

"Bootlicker…"

Chen Ning cursed silently.

Just because he's a Champion's son?

Was it really necessary to watch Ye Feng like he was their own child?

Or maybe Ye Feng himself didn't even care.

Inside the Sequoia Secret Realm.

Chen Ran, of course, knew nothing about the chaos in the monitoring room.

Right now, he was holding Riolu in his arms, smiling as he teased the newly born Pokémon.

"Hey there, little guy."

Riolu was small, with a blue, puppy-like body.

Red eyes.

Black mask-like markings on its face.

A blue tail and a yellow collar.

A white bump on the back of each front paw.

"Oulu~"

Riolu opened its eyes wide, curiously observing Chen Ran.

It glanced at Charmeleon, who had just carried it out of the tree hollow, still looking a little dazed.

"From now on, you'll be our partner."

Chen Ran began introducing everyone.

Charmeleon—

The current big brother.

A powerful, god-level Fire-type ace.

As for Jirachi—

Although under an invisible contest condition, Riolu was born with aura perception and could clearly sense a soft, adorable presence sitting on Chen Ran's shoulder.

"Oulu!"

Partner?

Riolu had just been born. Its mind wasn't fully developed yet.

But it could feel that the human and the two Pokémon in front of it carried no malice.

"Try this first."

Chen Ran took out a Normal-type energy cube.

He hadn't stocked Fighting-type cubes yet, so this was the best option for now.

"Oulu!"

The moment Riolu smelled the cube, its senses were instantly stimulated.

Its eyes lit up.

It smelled delicious.

"Go ahead. No need to be shy."

Seeing the mix of desire, politeness, and hesitation in Riolu's eyes, Chen Ran smiled and handed it over.

"Oulu~!"

Thank you.

Riolu smiled gently.

Even as a newborn, it already showed a calm, refined temperament.

This blue puppy—

Had a bright future.

"Let's keep moving."

Chen Ran held Riolu in his arms and continued forward.

The hatching of a Champion-Talent Pokémon was just an interlude.

His goal hadn't changed.

First place.

And the Quasi-God Pokémon cub as a reward.

"Insight."

While moving, Chen Ran checked Riolu's status panel.

[Riolu]

[Level: Lv.5]

[Attribute: Fighting]

[Ability: Prankster (Status moves gain priority)]

[Individual Values: HP (30), Attack (31), Defense (31), Special Attack (31), Special Defense (31), Speed (31)]

[Talent: Champion Level]

[Moves: Quick Attack, Endure, Feint]

Five perfect IVs.

And even the missing stat was 30—just one point away from perfection.

One more step, and it would reach Legendary-level potential.

"…Damn."

The system really lived up to its name.

"Among Champion-tier talents, this is basically the strongest possible Riolu."

At this point, Chen Ran almost wanted to give the system a thumbs-up.

Other transmigrators' systems either ignored them or actively sabotaged them.

But his—

It was practically doing charity work.

Saying "Champion talent," yet handing him top-tier Champion talent.

"Strong system."

Chen Ran's mood soared.

Along the way, he encountered several more wild Pokémon.

Charmeleon even ran into a group of wild Poochyena, led by a ferocious Mightyena.

The leader Mightyena clenched a stone tightly in its mouth—
