Chapter 69 - No Cops. No Hospitals.

I'd called Sophia to tell her I'd be late, and she could sleep over — with a pay raise coming in in the money as well.

I'd wanted to leave that bloody asshole back there.

After all, that was his world.

Violence. Gunshots. Hot chase.

That wasn't my life or my world now.

And I really wanted to know how Kane Vashawn was doing.

But Kane Vashawn wasn't my son's father.

He wasn't the man who made my skin burn.

And he definitely wasn't the man who gave me the keys to his car to escape and save my life.

I stepped on the brakes in the middle of a major street. Horns blared from behind, tires screeched, and a swarm of curses followed.

"Screw you all!"

I turned the wheels, reversed the car, causing a little traffic.

Not that the angry faces of other drivers bothered me.

I grabbed the gear again, turned the wheels, and did a sharp turn.

"Fucking thank you, Gia, for the car lessons," I muttered, giving my head a small, satisfied shake.

I stopped in front of a phone booth.
