Aello kept her head bowed long after finishing her story, pain and weight she'd spent years burying rising to the surface like water spilling over a dam. Fate hadn't been kind to her-forcing her to relive memories she'd fought so hard to lock away.

She twisted her fingers together, staring at her knuckles in silence. Ten minutes passed before Psikh spoke a word.

Biting her lower lip, she slowly lifted her gaze-and flinched. He was leaning on one elbow against the sofa, legs crossed as he watched her. His blue eyes held hers with an intensity that pulled her in, sharp and deep. Golden hair caught the light streaming through the glass walls, and for a moment he looked like something out of a dream-one her instincts whispered she should bow to.
