Asia opened her mouth to ask a follow-up question, but she didn't get the chance. We rounded the corner, and the massive, imposing front gates of Kuoh Academy came into view. Asia gasped, completely side-tracked by the sheer size of the school.

As we walked through the gates, the atmosphere instantly shifted.

Kuoh Academy was formerly an all-girls school, which meant the male population was notoriously starved and overwhelmingly perverted. The moment our little group stepped onto the campus, the whispers started.

"Whoa, who is that blonde beauty walking with Rias Gremory?"

"Who cares? I'm getting her phone number today, boys."

"She looks like an actual angel... I have to have her!"

I stopped. I turned my head and leveled a dead, freezing glare at the group of third-year guys plotting by the shoe lockers. I didn't even need to use my magic; my raw [STR: 50] and [Presence] stats radiated enough physical intimidation to make the air drop ten degrees.

The boys instantly shut their mouths, visibly paling and taking a step back.

To drive the point home, I casually draped my arm over Asia's shoulders, shielding her from the crowd as we walked toward the main building.

It worked, but it definitely backfired on my reputation.

"Oh, great," a guy muttered furiously under his breath. "Now he's stealing the new girl on top of hanging out with the hottest girl in school..."

"I want to be him so badly it hurts," another whined, actual tears welling in his eyes.

I looked over at Asia. She was completely oblivious to the sheer killing intent being directed at the back of my head, just smiling happily as we walked. I sighed, silently praying for patience. God, if you're up there... I feel like I just walked into a lion's den.

I escorted Asia and Isa to their classroom. The moment Asia stepped through the door, the entire class swarmed her, bombarding her with questions.

Before I left them to it, I reached into my pocket and handed Asia a spare key to my house. "If you get overwhelmed or need to head back before I'm done with classes, just use this," I told her quietly. She gave me a grateful nod.

I stepped back out into the hallway, ready to head to my own homeroom.

Rias was leaning against the wall right outside the door, waiting for me.

"I'm starting to think you're a stalker, Rias," I said flatly.

She let out a soft huff, stepping into my path. Without a word, she held out her expensive leather school bag.

I looked at the bag, then back up at her, thoroughly confused. "What is this?"

"I'm going to drop by your house later today to officially ask Asia if she would like to join my peerage," Rias said smoothly. She pushed the bag slightly closer to my chest.

I took the bag by the straps, nodding slowly. "Thanks for the heads-up."

She offered a pleased smile and started walking down the hallway toward her third-year class.

I looked at the bag in my hand, and then it finally clicked. She didn't hand me her bag so I could put something in it. She handed it to me so I would carry it for her while escorting her to class. It was a subtle, classic High-Class Devil power play, establishing dominance by treating me like her servant in the middle of the hallway.

A heavy sigh escaped my lips. Considering the absolute headache she had caused me this morning, a part of me really wanted to just drop her expensive bag right onto the linoleum floor.

Instead, I caught up to her, walking silently by her side until we reached her classroom.

I handed the bag back to her. But as she took the straps, I leaned in close, keeping my voice low enough that only she could hear.

"Watch your step, Rias," I whispered coldly. "I am not your plaything, and I'm definitely not your boy toy."

Her smug smile faltered for a fraction of a second. I didn't wait for her response. I turned my back and walked to my own class, spending the entire period meditating to cycle my mana until the bell rang.

I walked home alone. Asia had decided to hang out with Isa to learn her way around Kuoh, which gave me some desperately needed alone time.

The moment I stepped inside my house, I locked the front door, drew the curtains, and shut all the blinds. I didn't want any stray familiars or spying Devils peeking through the glass.

I sat down at my kitchen island and pulled the worn leather spellbook Rias had given me out of my bag.

Time to see what traditional DxD magic is all about.

I placed my hand flat against the cover.

[Spell Book: Beginner's Grimoire]

[Do you wish to learn this skill?]

[Yes / No]

I mentally selected [Yes].

The heavy book instantly dissolved into a flurry of golden, glowing particles that shot directly into my chest. A massive surge of knowledge flooded my brain, the complex geometry of demonic summoning circles, the flow of atmospheric mana, the linguistic triggers for the base elements.

A cascade of system notifications chimed rapidly in my vision.

[Skill Unlocked: The Basic Elements]

[Status Updated: Improved Magic]

You have obtained the foundational knowledge of both Light and Dark magical theory.

Description: DxD magic utilizes structural summoning circles to manifest energy, unlike your direct-cast Tamrielic magic. Integrating these geometric formulas into your innate casting has drastically optimized your mana flow.

[Effect: Maximum Mana output increased by 50%. All previously known spells are now 2x stronger.]

I gasped, gripping the edge of the kitchen counter as the sheer volume of mana inside my core violently expanded. The power boost was staggering. If my Lightning Bolt was lethal before, it was essentially a railgun now.

Another icon popped up.

[Fame Acquired: The Rising Mage]

You will no longer be seen as a weak human by the supernatural community. You have firmly planted your feet on the board.

I raised an eyebrow at that. Fame titles were usually completely invisible to anyone except me, but if the system was registering it, it meant the Underworld was definitely going to start paying attention to me soon.

I swiped the notifications away. It was time for the main event.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out the dark, jagged ring. The purple gemstone in the center seemed to pulse faintly in the dim lighting of my kitchen.

[Sacred Gear: The Lightning Dragon, Leonidas]

[Awaken Sacred Gear?]

[Yes / No]

I took a deep breath, steeling my nerves. I didn't know what to expect, but backing down now was out of the question.

I pressed [Yes].

Instantly, my vision went completely black. The kitchen, the house, the quiet sounds of the neighborhood, it all vanished. I felt weightless, falling through an endless void for what felt like hours, until my boots finally hit a solid surface.

I opened my eyes.
