The dream was gray.

Like a mass of water-soaked, icy cotton wool wrapping around Jake Muller's consciousness.

He was back in Edonia, that filthy, dilapidated border town where even the sunlight was stingy with its rays.

His mother, Kandy Muller, stood at the entrance of that familiar alleyway that smelled of sour garbage.

She was wearing that faded white dress, her soft blonde hair fluttering slightly in the gray wind.

On her face was a bright smile, one he had never seen in his memories.

She wasn't coughing, and her face was no longer sickly pale.

She looked so healthy, so beautiful, just like the teenage girl he'd only seen in old photos, one not yet eroded by life and suffering.

"Mama!"

He cried out happily and ran toward her.

His small body was full of strength; he wanted to throw himself into her arms and feel that warmth that belonged only to him.

But his mother was backing away.

The smile on her face didn't change, but her eyes became distant and hollow.

Smiling, she retreated step by step, her figure gradually blending into the darkness deep within the alley.

"Mama! Don't go! Wait for me!"

He ran desperately, but the distance between them kept widening.

The alley he could navigate with his eyes closed now became endless.

"Jack..."

His mother's voice came from the distant darkness, ethereal as a gust of wind.

"Be a good boy... you have to survive..."

Her figure was completely swallowed by the darkness.

"No—!"

Jack let out a desperate roar and woke up from the dream.

Cold reality instantly submerged him.

This wasn't Edonia, nor was it that ramshackle apartment.

This was the BSAA's exclusive dormitory; the room was spacious, clean, and warm.

But his mother was gone.

She had left.

Gone forever.

She had still abandoned him.

This thought was like a red-hot iron rod being thrust into his heart.

An uncontrollable, violent rage and despair exploded from the deepest part of his body.

"Aaaaaaaaagh—!"

He let out a roar.

At that moment, the blood in his body seemed to be ignited, beginning to boil at a terrifying speed.

Beneath his skin, muscle fibers twisted, proliferated, and reorganized wildly, making "crackling" sounds and tooth-aching bone pops.

His eyes were instantly covered in blood-red; on his retinas, the entire world became a distorted, boiling crimson.

His sanity was completely washed away in an instant.

Bang!

He smashed a fist into the alloy bed frame beside him. The reinforced metal was like a fragile biscuit, easily crushed into a terrifying dent by him.

The beast inside him, that violent and destructive power inherited from his father, completely broke free of its shackles at this moment.

He rushed out of the room, slamming the heavy alloy door until it deformed, and alarms instantly blared throughout the entire floor.

"Target out of control! Repeat, Subject Jake Muller is out of control!"

"Activate maximum-level suppression protocols!"

In the corridor, the piercing alarm and hurried footsteps intertwined.

Several fully armed BSAA security personnel, wearing heavy bomb suits and holding specialized stun guns and riot shields, quickly surrounded him from all directions.

What they saw was a scene they would never forget for the rest of their lives.

A boy only about ten years old, shirtless, his muscles bulging in an inhuman form, his skin covered in protruding, earthworm-like twisted blue-black veins.

His eyes were blood-red, a beast-like low growl came from his mouth, and his entire body radiated a primitive and terrifying, suffocating pressure.

"Fire!"

The captain in charge of command gave the order without hesitation.

Several high-voltage currents accurately hit Jack.

Zzzzt—!

The current, enough to instantly paralyze an adult African elephant, hit him, but it only made his body jerk violently as he let out an even more furious roar.

He lunged forward, his speed so fast he left only an afterimage.

The security guard at the very front felt an irresistible force crash into his shield.

Boom!

The special alloy shield weighing ten kilograms, along with his body of over a hundred kilograms, was kicked back several meters like a soda can, slamming hard into the wall at the end of the corridor with a dull thud.

The wall cracked, and the team member fainted on the spot.

The rest of the security personnel were terrified by this horrific scene.

This wasn't human strength at all!

Jack didn't stop; he was like a prehistoric beast charging into a flock of sheep. Every punch and every collision was accompanied by the sound of twisting metal and breaking bones.

Those well-trained elite soldiers were as fragile as paper dolls before him.

Panic began to spread in the hearts of these battle-hardened warriors... "Dr. Chambers! Quick! Jack, he..."

Sherry rushed into the lab in a panic, her face pale and her voice trembling.

Rebecca Chambers was analyzing a gene sequence map. Hearing Sherry's voice, she immediately turned around.

"What's wrong, Sherry? Speak slowly."

"Jack... he's out of control! In the dormitory area, he's hurt so many people!"

Rebecca didn't hesitate; she immediately took off her white lab coat and hurried out of the lab.

When she arrived at the scene, the entire floor was already a mess.

The walls were covered in cracked impact marks, the light tubes on the ceiling were shattered, and sparks were "fizzing."

Over a dozen security personnel lay scattered on the floor, groaning in pain, their riot gear completely deformed. Not a single person could stand up again.

And in the center of this chaos, Jake Muller was death-gripping the throat of the last security captain with one hand.

The battle-hardened strongman's feet kicked weakly at the floor, his face turning purple from lack of oxygen.

Jack's eyes were still blood-red; he seemed ready to crush this "toy's" throat.

"Jack!"

Rebecca shouted desperately.

The boy in the middle of his frenzy stiffened.

He slowly turned his head.

When those eyes, filled with blood and madness, saw Rebecca, that boiling crimson miraculously began to recede.

He saw that face, identical to his mother's.

He saw those blue eyes like a pure ocean.

She didn't back away, didn't run.

She just stood there, her face full of anxiety and worry, her eyes looking at him without blinking.

The coldness of being swallowed by darkness in the dream and the warm, anxious gaze in reality overlapped in an instant.

The blood-red in Jack's eyes completely dissipated.

His muscles, which had bulged due to the power rampage, quickly returned to their original state like a deflated balloon.

Thud.

He let go, and the security captain fell to the floor like a puddle of mud, clutching his throat and greedily gasping for air.

Jack stared blankly at Rebecca. That heart filled with rage and the desire for destruction was instantly occupied by another more surging, more bitter emotion.

Grievance, fear, and that sense of abandonment—a loneliness that went deep into his bones.

He was no longer that terrifying monster; he had changed back into that ten-year-old child who had just lost his mother.

He stumbled and ran toward Rebecca.

With a thud, he knelt at Rebecca's feet, reaching out with his small hands covered in dust and blood, death-gripping the hem of her clothes, and burying his face deep inside.

"Ugh... ugh..."

A suppressed whimper, like that of an injured young beast, came from his throat.

Then came a loud wail.

He turned all the pain, all the fear, and all the despair he had felt during this time into hot tears, soaking Rebecca's clothes.

"Mother... don't leave me!"

His voice was hoarse, broken, and full of pleading.

"I'll be good... I'll be very good..."

"I'll make you proud! Please... don't leave me alone again..."

Rebecca was completely stunned.

She could clearly feel the boy's body trembling violently, and that heart-wrenching crying pounded against her heart.

She knelt down and reached out, gently pulling the trembling child into her arms.

His body was very thin, but very hot, like a patient who had just broken a fever.

At this moment, she wasn't a Genius scientist of the BSAA or a project leader.

She was just an ordinary woman holding a child who had just lost his whole world.

"I won't leave you."

Rebecca's voice was gentle and firm.

"I'm here, Jack. I'll always be here."

...A high-definition video was playing repeatedly on the projection in the center of the obsidian round table.

The content of the video was the entire process of Jake Muller losing control.

From him smashing open the door, to him destroying the entire security team with inhuman strength, to him finally kneeling before Rebecca, crying uncontrollably.

Every detail and every frame was magnified countless times, with a series of heart-pounding data analyses attached to the side.

Peak strength, instantaneous speed, cell activity... every item far exceeded their initial assessment.

Drake C. Simmons's breathing became heavy. On his face, which was always meticulously groomed, muscles twitched slightly with excitement, and his eyes held undisguised greed and fanaticism.

"Perfect material! This is simply a masterpiece of God!"

He leaned forward, hands propped on the table, and said urgently, "That lunatic Wesker has completely escaped control, but this child... he has more potential than Wesker! He's still a blank slate; we can mold him into any shape we want! An absolutely loyal, invincible blade!"

"Give him to me," Simmons's voice carried excitement and thrill, "I guarantee that within five years, he will become the Family's most powerful weapon!"

The response to him was silence.

Trant, sitting in the main seat, didn't even look at him. He just watched the end of the video with interest—the scene of Jack holding Rebecca and crying—a playful smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

"Drake."

That old, hoarse, yet supremely majestic voice finally sounded.

The old man, who had been silent, picked up his briar pipe that had never been lit.

"In that head of yours, besides weapons, can you really not fit anything else?"

The old man's voice was flat, but it made Simmons's body tremble violently. That chill from the depths of his Soul swept through his body again.

"I..."

"You turned Wesker into an out-of-control mad dog, and now you want to turn this child into another?" The old man tapped the stem of his pipe gently on the table. The sound wasn't loud, but it hammered against Simmons's heart one by one.

"Your so-called 'molding' is to lock him up and use drugs and training to turn him into an emotionless killing machine that only executes orders?"

"Drake, your vision is... truly disappointing."

Simmons lowered his head, unable to say a word, fine cold sweat breaking out on his forehead.

The old man ignored him and turned his gaze to Trant.

Trant understood and pulled up another file on the projection.

"Based on the detailed autopsy of Kandy Muller's body and the gene sequencing analysis of Jake Muller, we have reached a conclusion."

Trant's voice was calm and rigorous.

"Kandy Muller's death was not simply due to illness. The virus in her body, due to her long-term malnutrition and severe psychological trauma, resulted in her body being unable to provide enough biological energy to maintain symbiotic balance. Ultimately, to protect itself, the virus began 'reverse consumption,' using her own life force as an energy source."

"This explains why she weakened so quickly."

"As for Jake Muller," Trant switched the screen to a complex gene map, where a certain sequence was specifically highlighted,

"Within his genes, there exists a very ancient recessive gene fragment belonging to Neanderthals. It is this segment of genes that provides a near-perfect 'chimeric framework' for the virus in his body. The Fusion level of the virus with him even exceeds that of Wesker."

"He is like a natural vessel."

"Additionally," Trant added,

"We compared Sherry Birkin's early medical records. When she was young, the g-virus in her body also showed unstable mutation characteristics, but after injecting a targeted inhibitory vaccine, the virus's activity was perfectly controlled and transformed into a part of herself—which is her current recovery ability far beyond that of ordinary people."

In the meeting room, everyone listened quietly.

"A controllable 'vessel' that craves maternal love and is extremely dependent on a specific target..." the old man in the corner spoke slowly, summarizing it all.

He looked at Trant and made the final decision.

"Let Rebecca Chambers adopt him."

This decision made Simmons snap his head up, his eyes full of disbelief.

The old man acted as if he didn't see his reaction and continued unhurriedly:

"In the name of the Family, fully support all of Rebecca Chambers's research projects. Hasn't she always wanted to develop a Broad-spectrum Vaccine that can combat all mainstream mutant viruses? Give her the best lab, the most funding, and the highest authority."

"I don't want a weapon that could turn on its master at any time."

The old man's gaze finally fell on the deathly pale Simmons, his eyes cold and full of warning.

"I want a... son who knows gratitude, who will see us as Family, and who is willing to use all his strength to protect this 'kinship'."

The assistant tapped lightly on the keyboard, and instructions were sent out through encrypted channels.

A legal adoption agreement was being drafted.

An astronomical amount of funding was being injected into the account of the BSAA's biological vaccine research project...
