Varek studied him for a long moment, his violet eyes narrowing with something between suspicion and curiosity.
"You speak as though you crossed that portal yourself."
Logan said nothing, but his silence answered louder than words ever could.
"Then you understand the danger better than anyone," Varek pressed. "Which is exactly why Paragon needs your guidance."
"If Crucible finds a way to unravel your concealment and step through, the consequences will not remain contained to the forest. They never do."
Logan walked back toward his desk, lowering himself into the chair with the slow deliberation of a man carrying invisible burdens.
"What does Paragon want from me, precisely? Cooperation? Access?"
"My silence sold for a different price?"
"Your knowledge," Varek said simply. "The wards you placed, the markers that hide the threshold, whatever keeps the portal from common eyes."
