Takoda watched as one of the younger rogues secured a rope around the trunk of a nearby tree. Another tested the knot repeatedly before nodding in satisfaction.
Their intentions had become very clear. They had to get her.
The older scarred rogue looked increasingly agitated as he watched the preparations.
"We take her and leave," one of the younger wolves said impatiently, as though the solution was obvious.
The older wolf stared at him with growing disbelief.
"And then what?"
The younger rogue frowned.
"What do you mean, and then what?"
The scarred wolf stepped forward, rain dripping from his hair and beard.
"You think you're going to capture Kade Nightshade's daughter and simply walk away afterward?"
The younger rogue's expression hardened.
"We won't keep her."
"That isn't the point."
"We sell her."
For several moments, the older wolf simply stared at him.
Then a short laugh escaped him.
There was no amusement in the sound. Only disbelief.
