Chapter 77 - Chapter 77: Brock of the Pewter Gym

"You despicable guys, you even stole our lines, Meow!"

Meowth ground its teeth, then reached out and commanded:

"Jessie, James, let's show them what we're made of, Meow!"

"Hm?"

Hearing this, Entei narrowed its eyes and looked coldly at the trio, a terrifying aura spreading from its body.

The Team Rocket Trio sensed the extraordinary nature of this Pokémon; if they attacked rashly, they would probably be sent flying immediately.

The trio immediately huddled together in shock.

"What a terrifying feeling. Meowth, if you want to go, go yourself!" Jessie said.

"What? We're clearly a team, Meow!" Meowth protested.

However, the next second, the trio saw the young man riding the mysterious Pokémon turn his gaze towards Meowth.

An expression of interest appeared on his face, and he took out a Poké Ball from his hand.

Seeing this scene, Meowth immediately felt a sense of dread.

"A talking Meowth? This is a very rare Pokémon! In that case, come over and become my Pokémon!" Fuyuki said deliberately.

"What, Meow?!" Meowth was greatly startled.

James quickly said, "Hey! Meowth is our partner!"

Jessie's fiery temper was ignited. At this moment, she didn't care about the mysterious Pokémon anymore, immediately taking out a Poké Ball and ordering:

"Arbok, use Poison Sting Attack! Let's show this guy what's what!"

"Ah-oh!"

Arbok let out a long howl from its mouth, then spat out several dark purple Poison Sting needles.

Seeing this, Entei immediately used Sacred Fire.

The rolling heat instantly melted the Poison Sting needles, and the shockwave from the explosion carried the trio flying into the sky.

Accompanied by screams, a familiar voice came from the sky.

"This feeling is awful!"

Fuyuki: "..."

That certainly sounds nostalgic!

"Little One, are you very fond of that Meowth?" Entei asked.

Fuyuki shook his head: "No, I just wanted to tease them."

Entei didn't ask further.

After a small interlude, the two finally crossed the vast Viridian Forest. In the plains ahead, a city situated at the foot of a massive rock mountain suddenly appeared before Fuyuki's eyes.

That place was Pewter City.

The destination was ahead, and Fuyuki and Entei didn't linger on the road. He recalled Squirtle and Gastly into their Poké Balls, then rode Entei, rushing into Pewter City with great speed.

Pedestrians on the street let out cries of surprise upon seeing this Pokémon.

"What Pokémon is that? It looks incredibly powerful!"

Fuyuki was not at all surprised that Entei caused a sensation. He ignored the surrounding citizens, then found the location of the Pewter Gym in Pewter City on his Pokédex, and immediately headed there.

*

Brock's House.

Ten-year-old Brock looked at the nine younger siblings surrounding him, all waiting to be fed, and couldn't help but sigh helplessly.

Long ago, when they were young, their father, Flint, left them to become the strongest Pokémon Trainer.

Their mother, Lola, thought her husband was irresponsible and angrily left the Gym to train Pokémon, leaving Brock and his siblings at the Gym for Brock to care for.

Thus, Brock managed the Gym while using the salary and prize money distributed by the Kanto League to care for his younger siblings.

Although life was a bit tough, seeing his younger siblings grow up healthy made Brock feel it was all worth it.

"Big Brother, will Mom and Dad really come back?" asked the youngest sister, Toko, while drinking formula from her bottle.

Brock's movement stiffened, and he immediately said, "Don't worry, they will definitely come back!"

Hearing this, the slightly older children exchanged glances, then firmly said to Brock:

"Even if they come back, we only want Big Brother!"

Brock was slightly stunned, then smiled and patted their heads.

"Alright, hurry up and eat. I still have to go work at the Gym later."

"Mhm!"

After helping his younger siblings finish their meal, Brock went to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

Jiro, the eldest younger brother, walked over and said, "Big Brother, I saw the Breeder's Notes you left on the table."

Hearing this, Brock's movements paused slightly.

"What is it, Jiro?"

Jiro asked, "Big Brother, do you want to become a Pokémon Breeder?"

Brock smiled with narrowed eyes and said, "I just flip through those when I'm bored."

Jiro didn't believe him. He clenched his fist and said seriously, "If Big Brother wants to become a Pokémon Breeder, then go! I will stay home and take care of our younger siblings!"

Over the years, they had been a burden on Big Brother Brock.

"Don't talk nonsense. Now go read. Didn't you want to become an excellent Trainer and run this Gym in the future?" Brock patted Jiro's head.

Jiro opened his mouth, wanting to say something more, but seeing his brother's expression, he ultimately sighed.

Brock finished washing the dishes, then said goodbye to his younger siblings and set off with his Pokémon for the Pewter Gym.

"A Breeder, huh?" Brock murmured on the road.

That was indeed his dream, but he couldn't leave. If he left, his group of younger siblings would be left unattended.

Brock sighed and buried this dream deep in his heart.

The Pewter Gym's exterior was shaped like a massive rock, which perfectly matched the attribute the Gym specialized in.

When Fuyuki and Entei arrived here, they saw a familiar figure at the entrance.

It was a dark-skinned youth with squinty eyes.

It's you, Brock!

Brock also noticed the young man riding the mysterious Pokémon.

That Pokémon... could it be the legendary Entei?!

Brock showed an expression of surprise.

But he quickly calmed down: "Hello, Trainer. I am Brock, the Gym Leader of the Pewter Gym. If you wish to challenge the Gym, please come in!"

"Excuse me!" The Brock standing before him looked very calm, not at all like the lovesick fool who chases pretty older sisters in the anime. Fuyuki scrutinized Brock discreetly.

However, when he walked into the Pewter Gym, his gaze was involuntarily drawn to the empty space inside.

"Here... is it just you?" Fuyuki couldn't help but ask.

One must know that Giovanni's Viridian Gym had several Staff Members.

Furthermore, as far as he knew, running a Gym was physically demanding, requiring not only a Referee but also regular maintenance of the Gym Battlefield damaged by Pokémon battles.

"That's right, Trainer." Brock nodded. In fact, he also wanted to hire some Staff Members to act as Referees and Maintenance Workers.

But his Gym simply didn't have that much funding, and all his salary went to his younger siblings, so he couldn't afford to hire many people.

However, his own strength was enough!

"Clap!"

Brock snapped his fingers, and the walls on both sides of the Pewter Gym automatically rose. Immediately after, two rock-covered platforms gradually extended from within, combining in the center of the Gym to form a classic Rock Battlefield.

"Trainer, allow me to formally introduce myself! My name is Brock, and I am the Gym Leader of this Gym!"
