Chapter 61 - The Price of Victory

On the horizon, everyone watched the Virkoda creatures retreating, those beings that had once been a symbol of terror, now withdrawing quietly toward the sea.

The people stood in silence, watching until the monsters disappeared into the depths of the water, leaving behind traces of destruction and new hopes for the future.

Amid the atmosphere of celebration, Ateen slowly stepped toward the body of her brother, Finn, lying on the ground, her face pale and her eyes filled with tears.

She fell to her knees, her hands trembling as she touched his cold face. Then she looked into his open eyes, gently closed them, and whispered in a choked voice:

"You were all I had left... Why? Why did you leave me?"

Her tears poured heavily, as if she refused to believe what had happened.

Amid the celebrations, between the cheers and smiles, Basil noticed Ateen sitting alone in the distance, her head lowered, her body seeming as though it carried the weight of the world.

He signaled to those carrying him to put him down, then walked toward her.

With every step closer, his heart grew heavier, until his eyes fell upon the body lying before her.

In the heavy silence, Basil looked at Finn's body, then at Ateen, who seemed as though she had lost a part of her soul. There were no words capable of bringing back what had been lost, yet he still felt the need to say something, something that might ease even a little of the pain filling the place.

He stood beside her and looked at Finn for a few silent moments before saying in a calm voice filled with deep sorrow:

"He was a good and brave boy..."

She kept staring at Finn's body, tears soaking her face. She lifted her gaze toward Basil and whispered in a broken voice:

"He was my brother... the only person left from my family."

Basil approached her sadly, sat beside her, and gently placed his hand on her shoulder before saying:

"In war, losses cannot be avoided. Sacrifices are the price we pay for the future."

Not far away, Morani sat on the ground, crying bitterly beside the body of his late brother.

The Mazi men gathered around him, their faces stained with tears and sorrow for Scarface, their leader and commander, who had sacrificed himself to protect the kingdom. Their crying was a mixture of pain, loyalty, and regret over losing him.

As Ateen stood silently, her eyes clouded from exhaustion and grief, she noticed Dia approaching her with slow steps, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Ateen looked at her and asked, "Are you alright? And where is Mori?"

Dia fell silent for a moment before murmuring:

"Mori... sacrificed herself to kill the Queen. I couldn't stop her..."

Ateen looked at her with eyes full of pain, then said:

"Mori was a hero. She chose to save all of us. We... will never forget her."

Then she stepped forward and embraced Dia while crying.

At that moment, Hamza appeared from behind the ruins, walking slowly.

When Basil saw him, he approached and joked:

"Hamza! I thought I lost you."

Hamza smiled despite his exhaustion and said:

"I think you know me better than that."

Basil laughed lightly despite the sorrow filling the place, then embraced him and said sincerely:

"Thank you. You were always by my side, and I will never forget that."

As the sun set, the people gathered together in the square; some celebrated the victory, while others mourned the loss of their loved ones. Despite everything, they all understood that this day would never be forgotten.
