Chapter 86 - Chapter 86: Escape

Watching Vicious streak toward her, Laffey's expression turned icy. She raised her right hand into the air; a holy sword slowly materialized and snapped into her grip.

A fearsome aura erupted as she flashed forward to meet Vicious head-on. The two collided like meteors, sending a titanic shock-wave across the sky.

"Clang, clang, clang..." The swords in their hands clashed repeatedly. After each strike, they would immediately retract their blades and retreat a certain distance before both suddenly vanished into the air, only to clash again in another part of the sky.

Explosive sounds erupted in the sky from time to time, and sparks of power appeared wherever the two flashed into existence.

As the battle raged on, the two unknowingly flew deep into the forest while fighting. Laffey possessed a terrifying talent skill—Bravery in Battle.

As time passed, Laffey's strength gradually grew, and the attacks she unleashed became increasingly terrifying. In contrast, Vicious's attacking power was steadily declining, making it harder and harder for her to parry Laffey's strikes.

With a bang, Vicious was caught off guard and struck by Laffey's Codex in a sneak attack, falling toward the forest like a meteor... "Pah! What bad luck! I didn't expect to run into a Thief group, but fortunately, my escort team is powerful, so there's no need to fear being robbed," Cole said with great relief.

"Check the casualties and report back to me."

"Yes, Captain!"

Captain Galin, who had sustained a minor injury, looked up at the sky. They were clearly just a bit away from Sorges Town, but he hadn't expected Thieves to be lying in ambush here. It looked like they would have to camp in this forest tonight!

A short while later,

"Reporting to the Captain: two dead, three heavily injured, and six with light injuries."

"Mm, I understand. Go tell everyone to pack up; we'll continue our journey."

"Yes! Captain!"

More brothers have died! Galin couldn't help but feel a bit emotional. This was just how it was in their line of work as adventurers; their lives could be lost at any moment. But there was no helping it; after all, guarding a slave carriage was inherently dangerous, and they had accepted this commission fully prepared for the risks.

Cole poked his head out of the luxurious carriage and said, "Hey! Captain Galin! Can we still reach Sorges Town on time?"

"I am very sorry about that. Because of these Thieves, I'm afraid we'll have to camp here tonight," Captain Galin reported honestly.

"What useless trash. It's all because you're too incompetent. It was just a small Thief group, yet it took you so long. I am very disappointed in your performance. If we don't make it in time for the auction house's bidding, your commission fee will be halved," Cole threatened.

"Rest assured, Lord Cole! We guarantee we will escort you to your destination on time," Captain Galin said solemnly.

"Hmph! It better be! Otherwise, you know the consequences." After saying this, Cole returned to the luxurious carriage.

The carriage convoy continued forward. Captain Galin planned to travel a bit further before setting up camp in the forest.

An hour later, as the carriage convoy continued through the dense forest, Captain Galin saw that the sun was about to set and it was getting late. Just as he was about to tell everyone to camp there, he heard someone in the group shout.

"Eh! What's that! It looks like a meteor! I need to make a wish quickly—I wish to marry Miss Alice after I go home this time."

"You're daydreaming again. I heard Alice's parents hate you! They say you're too poor and don't want their daughter to marry you."

"Stop talking. Haven't you noticed? That meteor is flying right toward us!"

As soon as the words fell, they saw the meteor crashing straight into their carriage convoy. The faces of the escort team members suddenly turned pale. They were doomed.

"Boom!" The terrifying power contained within the meteor smashed the carriage convoy apart. The impact was so horrific that the entire escort team and the slave merchant were knocked unconscious. The carriage cages were destroyed and dismantled, and the women inside were scattered around, also unconscious.

The fallen meteor kicked up clouds of dust. As the dust slowly settled, a soft and cute little loli clutched her head and said angrily, "That girl Laffey is still as terrifying as ever; it seems my strength is still too far behind hers. Just you wait, Seraph Laffey! I'll definitely take you down next time."

Vicious looked around and saw a large group of people lying on the ground. "Holy crap, why are there so many humans sleeping here? Don't they know that when it gets dark, many man-eating monsters appear in the forest? These humans really aren't afraid of death! Vicious truly feels impressed!"

As the culprit, Vicious had no self-awareness at all, standing there making snide comments as if she didn't know this was all caused by her.

"Oh no! Laffey is coming soon. I need to make a tactical retreat." After Vicious finished speaking, she immediately turned into a streak of red light and vanished into the air.

A moment later, a six-winged angel suddenly descended rapidly. She looked around and realized Vicious should have fallen here, but she didn't see anyone. She had originally intended to follow up her victory and kill Vicious, the Vampire Progenitor, but she hadn't expected her to escape.

The six-winged angel let out a yawn and said a bit sleepily, "Ah... whatever, let her escape. Laffey needs to find a place to sleep too."

With a bang, Laffey released a terrifying aura from her body, sacred light surrounding her entire form. Then, with a whoosh, she took off from the spot, flew into the sky, and disappeared.

The accident caused by Vicious, the artificial meteor, came to a close. After an unknown amount of time, the first to wake up was Illustrious. She clutched her forehead, still feeling a bit dizzy and lightheaded.

Recalling why she had fainted, she only remembered that the carriage convoy seemed to have been struck by a meteor. The meteor's power was so great that it directly caused everyone to lose consciousness.

Seeing that the slave merchant and the escort team were all unconscious and hadn't woken up, Illustrious thought to herself how lucky she was to wake up before these people; otherwise, she might not have had a chance to escape.

"Right, my sister Aircraft Carrier... I wonder where she was blown to?" Illustrious immediately got up and began searching for her sister, eventually finding Aircraft Carrier in the corner of some small trees.

She placed her finger under Aircraft Carrier's nose and only relaxed after finding she was still breathing. She repeatedly shook Aircraft Carrier's small body to wake her up quickly.

After being shaken a few times, Aircraft Carrier finally woke up. Her mind was a bit hazy as she asked her sister in confusion, "Sister, where is this?"

"Aircraft Carrier, you're awake! That's great! While the people from the escort team haven't woken up yet, let's hurry and escape!" Illustrious immediately took Aircraft Carrier's hand, intending to flee the area quickly.
