Dorian's pov
I watched her leave shutting the door behind her, while I was stuck battling with the fact that it was "her". The same lady Ethan and I had spent five whole years searching for and I had just let her walk away. She didn't seem to recognize me and I was wondering if I should be thankful that the past was behind me or upset that It was so easy for her to forget me.
My phone rang for what seemed to be the 30th time today. It was from Kylie, my secretary. I was probably late for a board meeting or something. I got up, straightened my suit deciding to put the lady in the past where she belonged.
I rounded up the rest interviews and sat through some really boring board meeting. The day was finally over but for some reason, I still couldn't get her out of my head.
Ethan had invited me over to the bar for some drinks, but I just couldn't be at a bar right now, the place that started this whole mess.
I got to my pent house and settled in busying myself with some files I had at home, had a cup of coffee and tried as hard as I could but couldn't stop myself from thinking about it
That unfaithful night started with me attending a charity fund raiser put together by Victoria Lane. Her father is one of the biggest shareholders of my company so I had to show up to build publicity. It was a boring night just like all charity events but things took a turn for me when Victoria slipped me an aphrodisiac disguised as a baked treat all a part of her disgustingly elaborate scheme to make a husband out of me.
The effects of the snack started having an effect on me and Victoria tried to make her move on me but I decided to find a bar knowing it would be better to have a one-night stand with a complete stranger than let Victoria succeed.
I stepped into the bar filled with all sorts of low lives dressed in flashy clothing, there she was sitting by the bar having an awkward conversation with a guy she didn't seem to know.
She was dressed casually, her honey brown hair packed in a messy bun, her warm brown eyes glistened in the moonlight as we talked, her cute round face flushed pink probably from too much alcohol and her red lips looked so seductive, it was probably the effect of the drug but everything was edged permanently in my mind.
I was woken up that morning by calls from my secretary, there was something urgent that required my attention at the company. I looked at the strange woman sleeping peacefully beside me I was really reluctant to leave her she was still as beautiful as the night before.
I dropped my business card on the table hoping she'd see it when she woke up, I told the people at the bar not to let her check out and I promised to be back before noon but when I got there she was gone.
After five futile years of searching, she'd just walked back into my life and I didn't know what to do about it.
I went through the interview files and shortlisted to just two candidates
Nyla Park and Stella Marin.
They were both evenly matched and I was at a loss on who to employ so I decided to contact Ethan. He was usually very good at these kind of things.
I emailed him their qualifications and waited for his response. My phone rang and I picked it up.
"who are you going to hire?" he asked inaudibly his voice overshadowed by the loud music coming from the club.
"I wouldn't have asked for your help if I knew"
He stepped out of the club so we could talk properly.
"Nyla seems like a better choice since she's multilingual and you've got that deal to close in Tokyo"
"I know that, but we have history"
"Dorian, we both know that a deal worth millions of dollars is more important than whatever history you have together"
"I know how much is at stake here but she's the lady from five years ago"
"Your one-night stand?... man that changes everything"
"How?" I asked even though I also thought it was a bad idea.
"it's going to make work awkward"
"But she didn't recognize me"
"still, you can't seriously be considering hiring a woman you had a fling with" he replied, his voice laced with worry.
"I need to do what's best for my company"
We had a heated conversation and Ethan had more than a thousand reasons for me not to hire Nyla and pointed out the fact that I could easily get a translator for the Tokyo case.
I wasn't in the mood to argue with him, we ended the call and the more I thought about it the more I understood how risky this was and how it could eventually go wrong.
I made up my mind on the best candidate for the job and was about to call it a night until I received an email from Mr. Lane
He had come to me few weeks ago with a marriage proposal to his daughter as the only way to keep him fully invested in my company. He was a major shareholder and the most influential man in New York and he'd recently saved my company from a major lawsuit. He wasn't someone to mess with and Victoria was his only child and he was prepared to do anything as long as it made her happy.
His marriage proposal stated that he'd cover all the bills and make all arrangements as long as I got married to his daughter fulfilled my duties as a husband and gave her a happy life.
He even went as far as offering me his company as a wedding gift as long as a son came out of the marriage.
I had just received another threatening email from him urging me to hasten my decisions.
I hated being threatened
