Chapter 23: Talking in Bed!
"Big brother, please have some water!"
As Daniel was smoking, a little girl shyly handed him a cup. Daniel noticed some cracks on her hands. It seemed she usually did a lot of farm work at home.
"Thank you. What's your name?"
"My name is Shanni, but my teacher said it wasn't a good name. So she changed my name to Susu."
The little girl talked about her name as if she were showing off a toy.
"Hey, come eat!"
At this moment, Grace and the students had already spread out a sheet on the ground, put the stewed pork into a washbasin and brought it out. There were also many fragrant stir-fried side dishes. After everyone sat down, Shanni carefully took the clay bottle and poured a glass of wine for Daniel and Grace, then timidly said, "Big brother, my dad said that this poor place has nothing to offer you, so he asked us to apologize to you."
"Silly girl, isn't this enough?" Daniel smiled and patted the child's head.
Seeing that the students' eyes were all fixed on the pot of stewed meat in the middle, Grace smiled, picked up her wine glass and said, "You all eat, your older brother and I have something to talk about."
Upon hearing this, the children quickly picked up their chopsticks to eat, but they didn't dare to eat too much.
"Aunt, I think I understand why you like this place."
Indeed, in just half a day, Daniel felt as if he had understood a lot.
Grace smiled and picked up her wine glass: "Silly child, your auntie loves this place. Come and have a drink of Kaseri's sweet potato liquor. You can't find this kind of liquor anywhere else."
Daniel picked up his wine glass and took a sip. He felt a burning sensation coursing through his intestines. Although it was hot, it wasn't scalding. There was also a strong aroma in his mouth. He couldn't help but exclaim, "What a fine wine! Only ten years of aging, combined with the good mountains and rivers, could produce such a delicious wine."
"Hey, can I ask you for a favor?" Grace looked somewhat troubled.
"Tell me! I'll definitely do what I can." Daniel smiled.
"Could you help me get some textbooks that the elementary school in town doesn't need anymore? The children's books are almost obsolete!"
As Grace spoke, the children who were working hard looked up at Daniel with expectant expressions.
"No problem, I'll get things sorted out for you as soon as I get back! If it goes well, I'll look for school supplies or something. Life in that small town is pretty good right now, and if possible, I'll try to get some steel bars and cement to build a better school for you."
Daniel thought about it and figured there shouldn't be any problems. Although the mountain road was long, it was narrow enough that small trucks like those from Patan could still make it.
[A/N: Patan = town or city]
Once they got to the river, they could use bamboo rafts to pull the trucks over. The villagers here could probably handle the rest themselves.
"Dan, thank you!"
Two lines of clear tears suddenly slid down Grace's delicate face. Only she knew the hardships she had endured over the years. If it weren't for the children's innocent calls of "teacher," she probably would have collapsed.
When Daniel saw his aunt crying, he immediately panicked: "Auntie, why are you crying? It's not like I didn't promise you."
"It's okay, I'm crying because I'm happy!"
After wiping away her tears, Grace smiled. This scene, witnessed by Daniel, was utterly shocking. So many people only knew how to shout slogans but not how to act. Her aunt had sacrificed her youth, even her rights as a woman, for this small mountain village. Although she had earned everyone's respect, she had lost far too much.
Daniel chatted and joked with his aunt about the situation back home, and before long, the two of them had finished an entire bottle of strong liquor. After the students finished eating, they obediently washed the bowls, plates before thanking him and going home. By this time, the mountains were pitch black, and if it weren't for the occasional moonlight, Daniel wouldn't have been able to see anything at all. Various insect chirps echoed all around.
"Hey, why don't you take a shower first? You'll have to squeeze in with me tonight!"
Grace filled a bucket with water and went outside. Daniel took a nice bath under the dim oil lamp. Actually, when he wasn't around, Grace wouldn't even use the oil lamp at night. After he finished bathing, Daniel emptied the water and filled another bucket for his aunt to bathe in, then went outside to smoke.
It took Grace a while to finish washing up. She hadn't used shampoo in a long time, and she wouldn't have bought these things if her nephew hadn't brought them. After the two entered the house, Daniel immediately felt a bit thirsty. His aunt was only wearing a simple pair of shorts and a thin vest, clearly without a bra. From the neckline, one could see her half-exposed breasts, their white flesh swaying, making one feel a little hot. Grace didn't care about her exposed skin at all. After letting Daniel get on the Bed, she bent down and lit a wad of homemade mosquito coils from the villagers before carefully blowing out the oil lamp.
Besides a thick cotton quilt in winter, Grace only had a thin blanket in summer, and her pillow was the kind that the villagers sewed themselves. After lying down, neither of them felt like they could fall asleep. Daniel felt even more itchy when he heard his aunt's sweet breathing. After a while, Grace broke the awkward silence:
"Dani, are you dating anyone now?"
Daniel thought for a moment. He couldn't count his second aunt, and he hadn't gotten his little aunt yet. So he figured it wouldn't be a lie to say he hadn't. He said, "Not yet, little aunt! Do you regret coming here? You've ruined your life's most important event."
Grace didn't mind and said with a smile, "Silly child, I've never thought about these things! I'm happy just watching these children grow up every day. You don't know, I have a student named Loru. When I came here, he was already ten years old and couldn't write his own name. He studied here for six years, and when he was eighteen, he married a girl from the village. Now his child is three years old, and every time he sees me, he sweetly calls me godmother! He's so cute."
"Haven't you ever thought about finding a man to marry?" Daniel knew he couldn't persuade his aunt to leave, so he simply decided not to bring up the topic.
Grace sighed softly, "Dan, you probably won't believe me if I say I haven't thought about it. But I can't leave these children behind. Besides, none of the men here are very educated. I don't mean to belittle them. It's just that I can't find anyone I can talk to. If I had to marry an ordinary man who would just get up and farm and feed pigs every day, I'd rather not find anyone and stay here with these children."
"Auntie, how will you handle it when you need it?" Daniel didn't know why, but the thought of a woman living alone for more than ten years made him ask the question almost inexplicably.
"You little brat, that's a bit too much to ask!" Grace felt a heat on her face, but Daniel couldn't see it in the darkness.
"Let me show you some concern for your life!" Once the arrow is released, there's no turning back.
"I haven't thought about those things."
Grace's tone lacked confidence as she spoke, and she felt a pang of panic when she recalled the lonely nights she had spent frantically using her hands.
"That's impossible! Humans have emotions and desires!" Daniel felt the topic was becoming increasingly ambiguous.
"You little rascal, why are you asking such a question? Are you still a virgin?!"
At this point, Grace started making a joke.
"Fine, stop trying to trick me! I'll tell you the truth, I did that, okay?"
As Daniel spoke, he recalled his second aunt's delicate body and unspoken charm, his aunt's enormous breasts and the allure on her face when he performed breast sex on her, and Danisha's innocent and youthful spirit. He felt a restlessness in his heart.
"Oh, let me see if it's true!"
"Damn, you're not trying to take advantage of me, are you?!" Grace pounced on her half-jokingly.
Daniel hadn't expected his aunt to be so playful, and he chuckled as he tickled her. The two frolicked in the darkness for a while, their laughter filling the small house. When they finally stopped, exhausted, they realized their position was rather ambiguous. Daniel was only wearing pants to bed, and he already had a tent in his pants, while his aunt was straddling him, her clothes disheveled. This position was practically a classic woman-on-top.
"Dan, you've grown up!"
Whether it was a thought of her youth or something else, Grace suddenly sighed wistfully.
"Hehe, even though I've grown up, Auntie, you're still so beautiful! It's a pity you have to stay in this wretched place, otherwise you would have charmed all the men down the mountain."
"You brat, judging by your appearance, you must have fooled a lot of girls! And you're still pretending to be innocent in front of me."
Grace suddenly realized that this position was not good, as her nephew's penis was pressing against her from all sides. She quickly rolled over and lay down.
Grace was a little flustered at this moment, constantly wondering if she had drunk too much that night. Although Dan was her junior, he was now a grown man, and it wasn't appropriate for him to act like this. Thinking of this, she turned around and said softly, "Go to sleep, Dan. Auntie has to get up early tomorrow morning."
Daniel, in a moment of joy, didn't hold out much hope and simply agreed before closing his eyes. The two lingered for a while, each lost in their own thoughts, before finally drifting off to sleep.
