Ewan peeked over, swallowing his saliva. Seeing this, Asher Ryder pulled some credits from his pocket while speaking to the woman: "We will take five of them, please."
"How about seven? Seven for just two credits."
"Deal."
The woman quickly wrapped the seven steaming cakes in a large broad leaf, throwing in two or three small skewers to make eating them more convenient. Ewan reached out to take the bundle, the heat from the cakes seeping through the leaf and warming his cold palms. Asher Ryder handed over a few small credits, and the two of them found a nearby stone step to sit down.
Ewan peeled back the outer leaf. A thin wisp of white smoke rose, carrying the rich aroma of wheat flour blended with leaf lard and the distinct, slightly earthy scent of the cudweed.
"Let me hold it for you, it is hot."
