Chapter 59 - Diverging Paths

The desert stretched endlessly between them.

Juvy walked forward.

Maxruell stood still.

Neither looked back again.

The wind erased their footprints almost instantly.

Like the world itself was trying to forget that they were ever together.

Hours passed.

Then night fell.

Juvy's steps grew slower.

Her body still hadn't recovered.

Every breath burned.

But she kept moving.

Because stopping meant thinking.

And thinking meant remembering.

The canyon.

The betrayal.

The Leviathan.

Maxruell's words.

Then you'll lose again.

She clenched her fists.

Light flickered weakly around her fingers.

"…Then I'll get stronger."

But not like him.

Not through destruction.

Far behind her…

Maxruell finally turned.

Not toward her.

But away.

His path led toward the ruined cities.

Toward conflict.

Toward power.

He walked alone.

Shadows faintly returning with each step.

Weak.

Unstable.

But growing.

"…Not strong enough…"

His voice echoed quietly.

The memory of Leviathan burned in his mind.

The way it adapted.

The way it crushed them.

He clenched his jaw.

"Next time…"

His eyes darkened again.

"…I won't lose."

Miles apart now—

They moved in opposite directions.

Juvy reached the remains of an old outpost by sunrise.

Broken walls.

Half-buried vehicles.

Signs of recent movement.

She stopped.

"…Eli?"

No answer.

Then—

A voice from behind.

"…You're alive."

Juvy turned instantly.

Mara stepped out from the shadows.

Eli right behind her.

Bruised.

But smiling.

"Took you long enough."

Relief hit Juvy hard.

"You made it…"

Eli nodded.

"Barely."

Mara crossed her arms.

"We thought you were dead."

Juvy shook her head.

"Not yet."

Her expression hardened.

"But things are different now."

They could see it in her eyes.

Something had changed.

Mara raised an eyebrow.

"…Where's your brother?"

Juvy hesitated for a second.

Then—

"He's gone his own way."

Eli frowned.

"That doesn't sound good."

Juvy looked toward the horizon.

"It's necessary."

Meanwhile…

In a distant ruined city Maxruell stepped into a war zone.

Gunfire echoed through the streets.

Two factions fighting over supplies.

Civilians caught in between.

He didn't hesitate.

Shadows spread instantly.

Swallowing bullets.

Crushing weapons.

Both sides froze.

"…Who the hell is that?" one soldier whispered.

Maxruell stepped forward.

Crimson light returning to his eyes.

Stronger than before.

Colder.

"You're done fighting."

One of the gang leaders laughed nervously.

"Or what?"

Maxruell looked at him.

No emotion.

"Or I end it for you."

The shadows moved.

Fast.

Precise.

Brutal.

Within seconds The battlefield was silent.

Weapons destroyed.

Fighters unconscious.

Some… didn't get back up.

The civilians stared at him.

Fear.

Awe.

Confusion.

"Red King…" someone whispered.

Maxruell turned away.

He didn't care what they called him anymore.

Across the world…

Reports began spreading again.

New sightings.

New incidents.

A single figure ending conflicts alone.

Not saving.

Not protecting.

Just… stopping everything.

High above…

Mother Cain watched the updates.

Two signals.

Far apart now.

No longer moving together.

Serah glanced at her.

"They've split."

Cain nodded.

"Good."

She zoomed in on Juvy's location.

Rebuilding.

Regrouping.

Holding onto something human.

Then Maxruell's.

Moving alone.

Becoming something else entirely.

Cain's voice dropped slightly.

"The experiment is entering its final phase."

Back at the outpost…

Juvy stood with the remaining Resistance.

Small.

Broken.

But still alive.

She looked at them.

"We're changing how we fight."

Mara smirked.

"…I was hoping you'd say that."

Juvy's light flickered again.

More controlled this time.

Not explosive.

Focused.

"We don't fight like armies."

She stepped forward.

"We fight smarter."

Far away…

Maxruell stood on top of a destroyed building.

Looking over another broken city.

His shadows spread across the skyline.

Darker.

Heavier.

"…No more holding back."

Two paths.

Light and darkness.

Growing stronger.

Separately.

The world watched.

Waiting.
