Chapter 51 - CHAPTER - 50

Inside the Gremory mansion, the atmosphere was nothing short of grand. The banquet had been arranged in one of the largest ballrooms, where an elegant table stretched across the polished floor beneath shimmering chandeliers.

Soft golden light reflected off crystal glasses and silverware, giving the entire setting an almost dreamlike quality that perfectly matched the importance of the occasion.

Lord Zeoticus Gremory sat at the head of the table, naturally commanding the space with his presence, while Venelana occupied the seat to his right with effortless grace.

On his left sat Sirzechs, who had joined them for the evening, his calm demeanor contrasting slightly with the celebratory mood surrounding them. Rias was seated beside her mother, her posture unusually proper despite the happiness evident in her expression, and Arthur sat at her side, quietly observing everything.

Akeno had taken the seat on Arthur's other side, her proximity anything but subtle, while the rest of the Occult Research Club members were arranged around the table.

Kiba maintained his usual composure, Koneko ate quietly without drawing attention to herself, and Asia seemed slightly overwhelmed by the luxury of it all, though her eyes sparkled with excitement. Servants moved gracefully through the room, placing dish after dish onto the table, filling it with an abundance of food far beyond what anyone could reasonably consume.

At some point during the meal, Zeoticus raised a glass and turned his attention toward Arthur and Sirzechs.

"It is not often that I bring this out," he said, his tone carrying a hint of pride as he gestured toward the bottle being poured. "You should consider it an honor."

Arthur accepted the glass without hesitation, understanding that refusing would be inappropriate, while Sirzechs chuckled lightly, already familiar with his father's habits.

The liquor itself carried a rich, complex aroma, clearly something reserved only for the most special occasions, and even Arthur could tell it was far from ordinary.

As the evening progressed, the conversation naturally shifted toward more important matters. What had begun as a celebration gradually turned into something more official, and before long, a decision was reached.

The engagement would be formally announced within the week.

The wedding would take place a few months later, shortly after Arthur turned eighteen.

Rias's reaction was impossible to hide. Though she tried to maintain her composure, her imagination had already begun to run ahead of her, picturing herself in a wedding dress, standing beside Arthur as everything around her faded into insignificance.

At first, she had been too embarrassed to suggest something so serious so soon, but the fact that Arthur himself had taken the initiative earlier only made her heart feel lighter.

To her, it meant that what they shared wasn't fleeting.

It was something real.

Her parents, of course, already knew the full situation. Grayfia had informed them of what had happened between the two, which was precisely why the discussion had been brought forward so quickly. Rather than reacting negatively, they had chosen to accept it and move forward, trusting both their daughter's feelings and Arthur's character.

The celebration continued late into the night, laughter and conversation filling the ballroom long after the formalities had been settled. By the time things finally began to quiet down, it had already been decided that everyone would remain at the mansion for the night.

Rias, Akeno, Asia, and Arthur were given a shared room without any hesitation. At this point, their relationship was no longer something to be hidden or questioned, and the arrangement was treated as perfectly natural within the household.

Just as they were about to retire, Venelana approached Arthur with a gentle smile.

"Sirzechs would like a word with you," she said, her tone soft but carrying a subtle meaning behind it.

Before he could respond, she turned back toward the girls, who immediately pulled her into conversation about something they clearly didn't want Arthur to hear. Akeno's playful tone mixed with Rias's embarrassed protests and Asia's flustered reactions made it obvious that whatever topic they had chosen, it was not meant for him.

Arthur decided not to question it.

Instead, he made his way toward the balcony.

There, standing beneath the quiet glow of the moon, was Sirzechs. Despite his youthful appearance, which made him seem no older than a man in his mid-twenties, there was an undeniable weight to his presence, something that spoke of experience far beyond what his looks suggested.

Arthur approached him calmly.

"Mother— I mean… Lady Gremory told me you wanted to speak with me."

The correction came naturally, though it felt unnecessary even as he said it.

Sirzechs smiled faintly.

"Don't worry about that. I'm quite certain she gave you permission to call her 'Mother' herself. Besides, you are already part of this family."

There was no hesitation in his words, no doubt, and that alone carried more meaning than any formal acknowledgment could.

Arthur nodded slightly, waiting for him to continue.

"I wanted to thank you."

The statement caught him off guard.

"I'm not sure I've done anything that deserves that."

Sirzechs turned his gaze toward the night sky, the moonlight reflecting softly in his eyes.

"I knew how Rias felt about her engagement," he said quietly, his voice carrying a subtle weight. "But because of my position, there were limits to what I could do. If things had continued as they were, I would have had no choice but to watch my own sister be forced into a life she didn't want."

He paused briefly before turning back toward Arthur.

"You changed that."

There was no exaggeration in his tone, no dramatics, only a simple acknowledgment of fact.

"And for that… I am grateful."

Arthur held his gaze for a moment before responding.

"I didn't do it for recognition. I did it because I care about her."

Sirzechs's smile widened slightly at that answer.

"That's exactly why I trust you."

The conversation continued for some time after that, drifting into lighter topics as Sirzechs shared various stories from Rias's past, many of which she would undoubtedly prefer remained secret. Arthur found himself listening with quiet amusement, gaining a different perspective on the girl he had come to know.

Eventually, however, the hour grew late.

With a final exchange of words, they parted ways.

When Arthur returned to the room, he found it quiet.

The girls were already asleep.

Rias lay peacefully at the center of the bed, Akeno resting close beside her, while Asia had curled up near the edge, still holding onto a pillow as if it were something precious. The soft rise and fall of their breathing created a calm, almost fragile atmosphere that felt completely at odds with the chaos of the day.

Arthur stood there for a moment, simply watching.

Then, deciding not to disturb them, he moved toward a nearby sofa and lay down.

'Let me see my rewards.'
