"The Architect trained my father?"
Raziel nodded once, slowly.
The ruined Moretti mansion groaned around them as another section of ceiling collapsed somewhere in the distance.
Dust rolled through the hall.
Lucien whistled quietly.
"Well… that sounds terrifying already."
Rachel ignored him.
Her mind was spinning.
"My father never mentioned anyone called the Architect."
Raziel gave a humorless laugh.
"Your father didn't mention a lot of things."
Daniel stepped closer to Rachel, holding her hand.
"Is he dangerous?"
Lucien answered before Raziel could.
"Oh kid… if Raziel looks worried, that means the man is basically a nightmare."
Rachel looked back at Raziel.
"What does he want with me?"
Raziel's jaw tightened.
"That's the problem."
He looked directly into her eyes.
"He doesn't want you."
Rachel frowned.
"Then what?"
Raziel pointed slowly toward the massive war machine standing silently in the ruined hall.
"He wants that."
Rachel felt her stomach drop.
The machine.
Of course.
Lucien sighed dramatically.
"Well that's unfortunate because we just used it to embarrass the military."
Rachel looked at the sky again.
The jets were gone now.
Only drifting parachutes remained in the distance.
But the silence felt wrong.
Too quiet.
Too calm.
The war machine suddenly spoke.
"New aircraft approaching."
Rachel's heart skipped.
Raziel's expression hardened instantly.
"How many?"
"One."
Lucien blinked.
"One?"
Rachel frowned.
"That's not an attack."
Raziel shook his head slowly.
"No."
His voice was colder now.
"That's worse."
The Black Helicopter
The sound came seconds later.
Not loud like the military jets.
Not aggressive.
Just a slow, controlled rhythm.
Helicopter blades.
A single black helicopter emerged through the clouds.
It didn't carry missiles.
It didn't fire weapons.
It simply hovered above the destroyed mansion.
Watching.
Rachel felt an uncomfortable chill crawl down her spine.
"Why isn't it attacking?"
Raziel answered quietly.
"Because he doesn't need to."
Lucien leaned against the broken window frame.
"Well whoever this Architect guy is, he clearly enjoys dramatic entrances."
The helicopter door slowly slid open.
A rope ladder dropped.
Rachel held her breath.
A man began descending.
Calm.
Unhurried.
Almost casual.
He landed in the destroyed courtyard outside the mansion.
Then he began walking inside.
The moment he stepped into the ruined hall
Rachel felt something she hadn't felt before.
Pressure.
Not physical.
But mental.
Like the air itself had become heavier.
Lucien straightened slightly.
"…okay I don't like this guy already."
Raziel didn't speak.
He simply stared.
The man walked through broken marble and shattered glass like none of it mattered.
He looked older than Rachel expected.
Mid-fifties maybe.
Grey hair.
Sharp eyes.
But the way he moved
Calm.
Controlled.
Confident.
Like he already knew he would win.
He stopped about ten meters from them.
Then he smiled slightly.
"Raziel Moretti."
Raziel's voice came out like steel.
"Victor Kane."
Rachel's eyes widened.
That was his name.
The Architect.
Victor Kane turned his gaze toward Rachel.
And for a moment
His expression changed.
Curiosity.
Interest.
"Well," he said softly.
"So this is Rachel."
Rachel stiffened.
"You know me?"
Victor Kane chuckled.
"My dear… I knew you before you were even born."
Rachel's blood ran cold.
Daniel stepped closer behind her.
Raziel moved slightly in front of Rachel without thinking.
Victor noticed.
"Still protecting her," he said calmly.
Raziel's voice dropped lower.
"You shouldn't have come here."
Victor raised an eyebrow.
"Really?"
He gestured around the destroyed mansion.
"You just used my weapon to disable half the military."
Rachel blinked.
"Your weapon?"
Victor's eyes shifted toward the war machine.
Pride flickered there.
"Yes."
Rachel's stomach twisted.
"You built it?"
Victor nodded casually.
"Of course."
Lucien raised a hand slightly.
"Okay quick question."
Victor glanced at him.
"Yes?"
Lucien shrugged.
"Why build something that insane?"
Victor's smile returned.
"Because the world respects only one language."
Rachel whispered,
"Power."
Victor pointed at her approvingly.
"Exactly."
Raziel's patience snapped.
"Say what you came to say."
Victor sighed slightly.
"Very well."
He looked directly at Rachel again.
"I came to take back my creation."
Rachel's heart pounded.
"You can't."
Victor tilted his head.
"Can't?"
Rachel stepped forward.
"The machine listens to me."
Victor studied her carefully.
"Yes… I noticed."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"That shouldn't be possible."
Rachel crossed her arms.
"Well it is."
Victor was silent for a moment.
Then he smiled again.
Slowly.
Dangerously.
"Fascinating."
Raziel's hand moved toward his gun.
"Leave."
Victor laughed softly.
"You still don't understand."
Rachel frowned.
"Understand what?"
Victor lifted a small device in his hand.
And pressed a button.
The war machine's lights suddenly flickered.
Rachel's heart dropped.
"No…"
The machine's voice glitched.
"Command… conflict detected."
Rachel ran toward it.
"Machine! Respond to me!"
Victor watched calmly.
"You see, Rachel…"
His voice was smooth.
"…you may control the machine."
He lifted the device slightly.
"But I control its core."
Rachel turned toward him.
Fury burned in her eyes.
"What did you do?!"
Victor smiled.
"I just reminded my creation who its true master is."
The war machine suddenly powered up again.
But this time
Its weapons turned.
Slowly.
Toward Rachel.
Daniel gasped.
Lucien swore.
Raziel stepped in front of Rachel instantly.
Victor Kane clasped his hands behind his back.
And said quietly
"Now Rachel…"
His smile widened.
"…let's see if the machine chooses you."
Or him.
The war machine moved.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
Its massive body rotated with a grinding metallic sound that echoed through the ruined mansion.
Rachel's heart pounded violently in her chest.
The weapon systems locked into position.
And every single cannon pointed directly at her.
Daniel grabbed her arm.
"Rachel…"
His voice trembled.
Raziel stepped forward instantly, placing himself between Rachel and the machine.
"Behind me."
Rachel didn't move.
Her eyes stayed locked on the machine.
"Machine," she said firmly.
The machine's sensors flickered.
"Command conflict detected."
Victor Kane watched calmly, almost amused.
"You see?" he said lightly. "You woke it up… but you never truly owned it."
Lucien muttered under his breath.
"Fantastic. The giant murder robot is having an identity crisis."
Rachel ignored him.
Her voice grew stronger.
"Machine. Stand down."
The machine didn't move.
Its weapons hummed louder.
Energy began building in its core.
Raziel's eyes narrowed.
"If that thing fires in here…"
Lucien finished the sentence quietly.
"…there won't be a mansion left."
Victor took a few slow steps forward, completely relaxed.
"You're trying to command it with authority."
He tilted his head slightly.
"That's not how it works."
Rachel's jaw tightened.
"Then how does it work?"
Victor's smile widened.
"Connection."
Rachel froze.
Victor pointed at the machine.
"I didn't build it to follow orders."
He looked directly into her eyes.
"I built it to follow the strongest mind."
Rachel's breath caught.
Victor continued calmly.
"That is why it responded to you earlier."
Raziel frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
Victor didn't look at him.
His gaze stayed on Rachel.
"The machine doesn't recognize ownership."
He lifted the control device again.
"It recognizes dominance."
Rachel slowly stepped forward.
Raziel grabbed her arm.
"Rachel, don't."
But she gently pulled away.
Her eyes never left the machine.
"If it wants dominance," she said quietly…
"…then it will get it."
Victor's smile deepened.
"Good."
Rachel walked closer to the towering machine.
Every weapon on its body tracked her movement.
Daniel whispered from behind,
"Rachel please stop…"
But she didn't stop.
She stood directly in front of it now.
The massive machine towered over her like a steel giant.
Its sensors glowed red.
Rachel could feel the energy building inside it.
Victor spoke calmly behind her.
"Let's see who it chooses."
Rachel clenched her fists.
Then she shouted with everything in her voice.
"I AM RACHEL MORETTI!"
Her voice echoed through the shattered hall.
"I AM THE ONE WHO WOKE YOU!"
The machine's sensors flickered violently.
Energy surged through its systems.
Victor's smile faltered slightly.
Rachel took another step closer.
"You listened to me before."
Her voice dropped lower.
"You protected us."
The machine's weapons twitched.
Raziel watched silently.
Lucien whispered,
"…is this actually working?"
Rachel placed her hand against the machine's cold metal armor.
"Listen to me."
The machine's voice crackled.
"Processing…"
Victor's eyes narrowed.
Rachel's voice became softer now.
But stronger.
"Choose."
The machine's systems flickered again.
Its weapons began rotating.
Slowly.
Victor lifted his control device.
"Don't be ridiculous."
He pressed another button.
The machine's core surged violently.
Rachel felt the metal vibrate beneath her hand.
Victor's voice turned sharp.
"Obey your creator!"
For a moment
Everything went silent.
Then the machine spoke.
"Command priority recalculating."
Victor's confidence cracked.
Rachel held her breath.
Raziel tensed.
Daniel squeezed Lucien's sleeve.
The machine's weapons slowly shifted.
Victor's eyes widened slightly.
Because they weren't pointing at Rachel anymore.
They were turning toward
Him.
The machine spoke again.
"Primary authority recognized."
Rachel whispered,
"…who?"
The machine answered.
"Rachel Moretti."
Victor Kane's smile disappeared.
Completely.
For the first time since arriving
The Architect looked shocked.
Rachel slowly turned toward him.
Her eyes were cold now.
"You said the machine follows the strongest mind."
Victor stared at her.
Rachel finished quietly.
"Looks like it made its choice."
Lucien let out a low whistle.
"Well…"
He grinned.
"That's awkward."
But Victor Kane suddenly started laughing.
Not nervous laughter.
Not angry laughter.
Real laughter.
Rachel frowned.
"What's funny?"
Victor wiped a tear from his eye.
"Oh Rachel…"
His voice dropped lower.
"You really think this was the test?"
Rachel's stomach tightened.
Victor lifted the device in his hand again.
And smiled.
"No."
His voice became chilling.
"This was just the introduction."
Then the device beeped.
And deep inside the war machine
Something new activated.
Rachel felt the metal beneath her hand grow suddenly ice cold.
The machine's voice echoed again.
But this time
It sounded different.
Darker.
"Hidden protocol awakening."
Raziel's eyes widened.
"Oh no…"
Rachel turned quickly.
"What protocol?!"
Victor Kane smiled slowly.
"The one your father died trying to stop."
The machine's entire body began glowing.
And Rachel realized something terrifying.
The war machine wasn't about to attack.
It was about to transform.
