Austin looks down at the man sleeping on him. His alpha. He has never seen this man cry before, and his heart is torn because of this. Not only did Austin feel his alpha's pain but the entire pack did. Several mind links have come through the beta link asking what was happening. The pack is in distress because of their alpha.
It's been over an hour since he slept and the former alpha and luna have since entered the library and sits patiently waiting for their son to wake up. I can few members wondering about in worry. I swallow and close my eyes and connect to the wolves my beta wolf commands and send comfort and warmth, I urge them to calm down and that everything is fine just a slight emotional distress due to the other alpha mate which is affecting him.
At first everyone is quiet but eventually I feel the slight sigh of relief as they send their thoughts and whatnot. When am done calming the wolves I nudge Matt and he drowsily wakes up. It takes him a moment to understand our position, and he sniffs then pulls himself out of my arms and stands when he notices his parents.
"Honey, what is the matter? The pack is worried" His mother takes him in her arms and am almost convinced she gives a shit about her son before she pulls back to utter "Is this about the human, what did he do? I told you he is odd..." she rumbles and he interrupts her rumblings by pushing her away non the gentler.
I sigh and look up at the library ceiling which depicts paintings of ancient wolves and other weird looking symbols that as beta I know am supposed to know because I must've been taught but nothing comes to mind regarding them and I frown. I hear a chair being dragged out and the weight of Matthew depositing himself in said chair before he sighs. It's quiet for a moment and am afraid he is about to cry again.
No offense or anything but I wasn't ready for my alpha's tears again. I would sooner kill his mate for making him cry than see him do it again. He can always choose another mate.
"Everything was going great... and I think he was warming up to me. I took him home and he was fine. Well, he did start to bleed in the club, and we thought nothing of it. I took him home and ..." He seems to find the next sentence physically painful to say. I look at Matt and his eyes are closed and he looks like he is fighting with himself. Now I am beginning to worry.
"I wasn't really thinking about the bond at the time. I was just worried because of how much blood he was losing; he was bleeding everywhere even his mouth was... " It must have been hard for him to see his mate in pain and not be able to do anything about it.
"We accidentally touched and he just doubled over in pain and started retching and I was thrown a few feet away." This has my attention and I get up from my position on the floor to stand closer to him. It's about offering support but I recognize that am anxious about his next sentence.
"I thought it was an accident. That maybe somehow... something wasn't right or I tripped. But my wolf wanted to touch him, and I just went for it. It was like something out of a movie, the way he was violently ripped out of my arms, and I was tossed a few feet away. I think.... I think I make my mate physically sick." Even as he said the last sentence my frown had deepened. That sounded like a rejected bond. But not in the traditional sense, more like a cursed bond.
The silence that settled over the room was heavy and uncomfortable.
"That doesn't make any sense. It sounds like a cursed bond. Son, are you sure this young man is your mate?" His father leans forward with his arms linked together in thought. His mother surprisingly was quiet. Her beautiful face a pale mask of indifference. Her arms I noticed were trembling as she tried to hide them under the table where she had sat on.
"You all felt it the moment I saw him. Every single one of you confirmed him as my mate. Even my wolf howled to the moon in acknowledgement. He is mine. I felt it, when we touched, it wasn't just pain for me, but I felt the sparks underneath it." He sighs a heavy sigh and moves to put his head in his arms.
There was only one explanation in this case, either he was cursed or his mate was. And it's been ages since we last came across a coven. Before either of us were born or we were still young. The supernatural board had taken to separate the species in case of issues arising over land and other petty disputes. For now, only the elder wolves and supernatural board had anything to do with the witches.
"I haven't dealt with witches in forever, it was a long time ago before you were even born and it was nothing to worry about, actually it was five of them that were just passing through to the elder wolves pack land" His father mumbled more to himself than the rest of us.
"It's him. He is the problem." The luna, acting in this case spoke up. Her voice trembling and her face pale looked terrible and far removed from the ever cutthroat put together immaculate woman she was. As my eyes looked over properly, I began to understand that she knew something.
"You know something" It wasn't an accusation per say but the way the husband said it spoke of something he had also remembered.
Matt frowns and looks at his mother. His face a mask of distrust and bottled anger. I could see him clenching his fists under the table. The same action his mother had done in anxiety a few minutes prior.
"I told you he was odd." Charlene moves her hand to her nose where it's beginning to get suspiciously red.
Come to think of it, she did tell us that the human was odd. She kept saying how he wasn't normal and whatnot, but we didn't really care too much for a human. And then he turned out to be the other alpha pair, and we completely forgot about his oddity altogether.
Fuck.
