I walked out to the clearing and looked at the ground. It was uneven, full of rocks and holes, not good for training.
"We need to fix this first."
The young ones followed me out. Eamon. The boy with no name. The short-sleeved girl, four others I did not know well.
"Fix what?" Eamon asked.
"The ground. It is too rough, someone will twist an ankle."
I started picking up rocks and throwing them to the side. The others watched for a moment and then joined me, we worked in silence. Just the sound of rocks hitting the grass.
The sun moved up. My back started hurting from bending over, i kept going.
"Here," the girl said. "These are flat."
She held up a few stones. Flat and wide, good for marking the edges.
"Set them around the perimeter," I said. "Make a circle."
She did. The others helped her, i kept clearing the center.
