The only thing Jo could hear was beeping sounds around her. And her head felt heavy, and as she struggled to open her eyes, she felt it spinning.
What had happened?
She opened her eyes and looked around, finding herself in a hospital room. Immediately she jolted up, and it caught the attention of the nurses, the doctor and ...
A random guy?
"Miss Joanah" The nurse called out alarmed "Please lie back down"
"How do you know my name?" She asked alarmed. Before the nurse could respond, the guy walked up to her and sat at the seat near her hospital bed, his aura was calm and soft and he looked really, almost unrealisticly handsome.
He also smelt really nice and had soft smooth skin, his hair was neat and shiny too. And how fashion sense ...
"I'm sorry" he immediately said "I accidentally hit you with my car"
Jo's eyes widened immediately "You what?"
"It was an Accident" he explained.
The doctor then approached them, looking calm as ever "Miss Joanah, do not be scared. You're in the hospital -"
"THE HOSPITAL?????"
"Yes and you had a slight concussion after being hit by Mr Johnson's car here" he explained
"I am really sorry" the guy apologized again. Jo's expression immediately became angry.
Why was life treating her this way?
First bills
Bullying drama
And now the hospital????
"I cannot afford this" she thought to herself
"Am I alright?" She asked the doctor. The doctor gave a small smile as he looked at her over his glasses
"Of course" he replied. "Nothing seems broken or injured and you aren't bleeding" he explained, going through her file on his hand. "You're good to go"
"Well thank you" she quickly said as she started to get off the bed
"Miss Joa-"
"I wish I could stay but-" she started "I can't afford this ... Obviously private hospital, so I'll be zamoosing-"
"Wait" the guy said, standing in her way before she even fully got off the bed. "It's on me, I promise"
Jo just rose her eyebrow at the guy and looked at him like he had something wrong with him that he wasn't aware of.
"I don't trust you" she immediately told him "this hospital looks expensive, so why are my bills on you?"
"Umm ... Because I ran you over?" He replied, looking at her as if this should be common logic "or would you have preffered a hit and run situation?"
Her nerves calmed down a little, and she wasn't as skeptical anymore. "Alright ... Thank you" she finally said, genuinely.
"You're welcome " he smiled back, then he gestured at the doctor and nurse as if to leave them alone
"Ok miss Joanah" the doctor said, a little bit too cheerfully "you're all good and should be discharged in about 3 days"
Jo sighed, at least she didn't have to face her creepy and perverted landlord immediately. But if only she didn't have to go and stay with her mom.
Immediately the doctors left, the guy sat ok the bed as if it was his personal right.
"I'm Leo" he introduced " I'm sorry I ran you over with my car. That wasn't a very good first impression"
"Definitely wasn't" she laughed a little "I wish you had just killed me instead"
"Woah" he exclaimed, a little taken aback "you don't mean that do you?"
Jo shot him the most serious look
"How did the hospital know my name?"
"Well you have a phone" he answered, raising it up for her to see, then handing it to her "we were able to enter it so we could contact any family members to reach out, that's how we got your virtual ID"
"That's breach of privacy" she exclaimed
"Yes I'm sorry" he apologized.
It's not like she even cared anyways "it's fine" she said.
It got silent for a while and Jo found herself starring at the window, entering a trance of her own, while Leo's gaze stayed stuck on her
"You don't have to stay for the entire 3 days if you don't want to" He said, trying to sound as soft as ever "I mean, I also wouldn't want to be in the hospital for that long too"
"Thank you" she replied, but still without looking at him. "But I'll take the offer"
Those words gave Leo a reason to think. He stared at her like she was some puzzle or more or less a riddle
"I can feel you staring " she said "and it's uncomfortable"
"I'm sorry, I was just wondering if you'll prefer my company or wait for a family member to arrive"
Jo finally looked at him, her dark brown eyes were gazed upon her hands, resting on the blanket over her body. Her eyebrows arched as they came together
"Family?" She thought
"I'll be fine on my own". Immediately her phone rang and the caller ID revealed her creepy landlord. Immediately her face twisted. This was the last thing she really needed at the moment.
Without a thought, she picked up the phone on the table beside her bed and slammed the screen facing down.
"WHAT THE FUCK?" Leo exclaimed. ALARMED!!. "Who was that?"
"NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS" She snapped.
Leo immediately got the message, and took his compsure, then he got up from where he was sitting
"This is my card" he said as he handed a small business card "if you need anything at all, call me. I'll have it arranged almost immediately" and then he left as Jo collected the card from his hand.
The door slammed shut and Jo immediately looked at it
"Leonardo Johnson"
She wasn't sure who he was. But she wondered how someone around her age already had a business card of his. And the only thing written on the card was his name and phone number.
And his ridiculously handsome face.
She threw the card against the wall angrilly and fell back on the bed, putting the cover cloth over her.
And then the tears started flowing
"Fuck" she said "I hate my life so much. I really do"
....
A day had passed since Jo was in the hospital. She got regular check ups from the nurses and doctors. Just to be sure. Sometimes she requested for them and sometimes they gave it to her whether she wanted it or not.
As much as she hated the idea of being stuck in a hospital, it was way better than the life she was living.
She was far away from everything that ever disturbed her.
Her school
Jessica
Her mom
And most importantly, her landlord.
And since the hospital was a private one, the treatment was outstanding. And what made it all better was the VIP treatment she was personally given. She wasn't sure why that was, and she did try asking once or twice but got the same response from the nurses or the doctor which was
"They are kind people"
But Jo knew it was more than just being kind. She knew they were rich or probably famous, but to the level of which they were, she wasn't sure.
....
The second day finally came and Jo was starting to appreciate her life at the hospital.
"Miss Joanna..." One of the nurses called out as she walked into the room. "Mr Johnson is here to see you"
Jo almost forgot who Johnson was before she finally took in the realization and sat up comfortably on her bed for Leo to see her properly
Except it wasn't Leo. It was actually Mr Johnson
"Hello Joanna" The man greeted. He had long brown hair and was really tall. His hair was geled in a sleeck manner. He wore his suit jacket over his designer cooperate and his perfume alone was enough to buy Jo's hospital room. He had lined eyes and a very composed smile which seemed very intimidating.
"Um hi" she greeted her
"I'm Leo's father" he introduced"Raphael Johnson and I heard about the accident that my careless son caused so I decided to pay the victim a visit and offer any form of compensation to prevent any issues from arising"
"Wow!" She immediately thought "straight to the point"
Jo coughed a little, then gave her most nonchalant face. As true as it was, she couldn't deny how intimated she felt by the man's presence.
That feeling of when you know when you're not even close to someone's league.
"The doctors said I'm alright. And trust me I'm not going to go around talking about how some random guy hit me with his car" she kept her look "there's nothing for you to worry about. I appreciate though"
Raphael gave a very satisfied smile and looked at the door. Immediately two men is suits came in.
One holding a black briefcase and the other a brown
"I am pleased to hear that. You say it's not necessary but I still prefer if you were given a compensation of the sort"
Immediately the two men opened the briefcases and it revealed cash.
Piles up, neatly and newly printed cash
"This is 20,000 dollars in cash. I want you to sign this agreement that after your stay in the hospital, you shall receive this money and not have anything to do with us or the accident again. And neither shall it ever be brought up whether intentionally or not"
Jo's eyes got wide just looking at the money. She hated how much she was happy to see that amount of cash. And how much she needed it
And how easy it was for someone to give her like he was offering her a piece of candy.
"Sure" she immediately agreed. Trying to hide how excited she was. "Whatever"
"Good" he slowly said. As one of the men approached Jo with a document and handed her a pen to start signing.
She sraeted immediately.
Maybe getting run over by a car wasn't such a bad thing after all
