Chen Chen first sized up the man before him, his bizarre attire exuding an aura of soul energy. In his hand, he held a staff crafted from what appeared to be withered wood and white bone, radiating an ominous aura. At the staff's apex hung a skull, its hollow eye sockets intermittently swirling with purple mist, creating a chilling and terrifying spectacle.
Seeming to notice Chen Chen's gaze, the strangely dressed man bowed slightly. A grin stretched across his deathly pale face, revealing rows of stark white teeth, and a low voice rumbled from his throat:
"Mr. Chen Chen's power is truly astonishing. A single punch has reduced this entire area to wasteland, leaving us all in awe."
Though his words seemed to praise Chen Chen's formidable strength, his demeanor remained neither subservient nor deferential, showing no trace of reverence or admiration. He continued, "Ah, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Voodoo, also known as Dr. Voodoo. It is an honor to meet you, Mr. Chen Chen."
"Dr. Voodoo," Chen Chen murmured, considering the man's self-introduction.
The Ancient One had warned him earlier not to underestimate this sorcerer.
Now, it seemed the Ancient One's words held true. Dr. Voodoo radiated an aura of considerable power.
Of course, Chen Chen already knew Dr. Voodoo was no ordinary opponent. In the comics, he had succeeded Doctor Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme and even personally entered the Dark Dimension to defeat Dormammu.
"This might be a good sparring partner," Chen Chen concluded, considering all the information he had about Dr. Voodoo.
Without a word, Chen Chen silently clasped his hands in a gesture of respect toward Dr. Voodoo. Then, his gaze shifted to the two figures standing not far from the sorcerer.
Among them, Chen Chen recognized the pale-faced Genos, who sat cross-legged. Though slightly weaker than Kazusa, his survival of the recent shockwave surprised Chen Chen, but only slightly.
Turning his head, Chen Chen's gaze fell upon another Sorcerer. This one carried himself with a far more relaxed demeanor, his tall, upright posture radiating confidence. He was enveloped in a loose, black hooded robe, the fabric seemingly imbued with powerful spells that concealed his identity and aided in stealth.
Not only was his physique and even his gender indiscernible, but his energy fluctuations were also masked. If not for the dwindling number of people present, Chen Chen might not have even noticed this mysterious figure.
*But why do I sense a familiar aura about him?* Chen Chen's brow furrowed slightly. Despite the layers of concealment, his senses caught a faint yet powerful trace of familiarity. *This person is suspicious.*
This familiar aura couldn't be random. This mysterious Sorcerer must have crossed paths with him before.
Chen Chen tilted his head slightly. Though he couldn't see the Sorcerer's eyes beneath the hood, he knew he was being watched. This focused attention was justified; as the mysterious Sorcerer met his gaze, Chen Chen sensed a complex mix of emotions emanating from him—a complexity he could clearly discern.
Even though energy and aura fluctuations were concealed and masked by various spells, emotions remained elusive. Detecting them was difficult, and concealing them was equally challenging.
The mysterious sorcerer stood motionless, facing Chen Chen. The shadows beneath the hood of his robe completely obscured his expression, leaving his face a black void.
Just as Chen Chen was about to approach and speak, a soft *whoosh* echoed through the air.
Agamoto slowly floated down from the sky, his white robes remaining perfectly still, as if the very space around him had solidified during his descent.
His brow furrowed slightly as he surveyed the desolate examination grounds, now reduced to a wasteland. His gaze then swept over Chen Chen's group before settling on Chen Chen.
Chen Chen met Agamoto's gaze unflinchingly. The two stood locked in a silent stare, their eyes colliding without any particular meaning or emotion, as if it were merely an accidental glance between strangers.
As the two locked eyes, an exceptionally bizarre yet non-aggressive wave of energy spread outward from them.
The eerie sensation that washed over them caused everyone nearby to hold their breath. Agamoto couldn't help but avert his gaze, a wry smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Chen Chen, this whole stunt of yours is truly unexpected," he said.
He pointed with his right finger at the figures lying prostrate on the ground, covered in yellow earth.
Agamoto stated plainly, "I originally planned for this assessment to eliminate half the participants. But now, only a few of you remain who know that most of the contestants weren't eliminated for failing the assessment itself—they were taken out by the aftershocks of your attack.
"This puts us in a rather awkward position."
"If you want to restart the assessment, I don't mind."
Chen Chen paid no mind to Agamoto's grumbling tone, even finding it somewhat schadenfreude. After all, these assessments were merely a time-wasting scheme devised by the three ancient demon gods. Given enough time, they would naturally accept the outcome.
For Chen Chen, this repeated selection of an heir was a waste of time. Otherwise, he might already be in Asgard, drinking with Thor. So, if he didn't stir up some trouble and disrupt the order here, it would feel out of place.
"There's no need for a re-examination. Rules are rules. Even though they didn't fail because they lacked the strength to defeat the Stone Golem, they still couldn't destroy it. Therefore, it must be treated as a failure."
As soon as he finished speaking, a golden energy surged from Agamoto, rising four meters in height. Under his control, the energy erupted like flames, forming a colossal golden pillar that pierced the heavens.
As the towering pillar ascended, countless dazzling lines of potent energy crisscrossed the barren earth, weaving intricate patterns and profound runes. Together, they formed a massive magical array, its lines and symbols etched in golden light.
