Elias POV
When we got to the door, I stopped, forcing Knight to stop also.
"If he saw Luther." I hesitated. "My face might scare him."
Knight nodded in understanding.
I stepped aside and Knight stepped before me and pushed the door before stepping inside while I followed.
The boy was sitting on a small bench against the far wall, exactly as he had been left. He had not moved. He was staring at the floor, his hands clenched in his lap. The room was small and empty, meant for visiting family, not for housing traumatized children.
Knight knelt in front of him, careful not to block the light from the single high window.
"Hello," He said, his voice gentle. "My name is Knight. I am the Beta here. You are safe now."
The boy did not look up.
"My name is Elias," I added from the doorway. "We are going to take very good care of you and your grandmother."
The boy flinched at my voice, a small, almost imperceptible movement. But he still did not speak.
