Alaric's voice emerged even quieter, carrying certainty that came from decades of experience.
"They listen to consequences… To demonstrations of what happens when they cross certain lines. I'm done wasting breath on warnings that won't be heeded."

Her voice carried acceptance.

Alaric nodded.
"If you're going to meet him anyway, we might as well enter together. Get the political protection secured for Luna, then stay and… get stronger."
Lyandra gave him a long look, one that conveyed she knew exactly what he was planning and approved completely.
She reached up, pulling his face down to hers, kissing him deeply.
