Chapter 51 - New skills acquired

Within the changing room, Westminster's youth players were dozing on the extended benches. Once Oswin drifted off on a vacant bench, Winston went to the showers and settled in a corner of the room. He recollected getting reward points for somewhat finishing the daily challenge against Maximilian.

Winston stood up and his feet felt wobbly, He now was startled by the core system interface change. Before he collapsed after the match between Maximilian, he blurry saw he had awakened three new awakenings. He thought to himself for a second that these new awakenings had strange names. Since the core shifted and categories these awakenings with his stats. He suspects a connection between his abdominal pain and these awakenings. Or perhaps the sharp, fluctuating sine waves.

For now, he was happy that he would get to his if his thinking was on point, since the Nethen Essence and Voltage core are near completion. As he shifts his eyes down on the core system, his eyes even widen, although Winston was doing everything to grow his stats, but he was doing more for reward points. That is why when he gets daily challenges, he makes sure to finish them. So he can buy skill moves, which is something he has been feeling he needed more since he wanted to stand out in the league. After accumulating a significant number of points, he found himself daydreaming in the corner of the room, only to shake himself awake and access the skill shop.

For a while, Winston pondered over the skills shop; he wondered which of the skills would help him with standing out. Ultimately, after considering the pros and cons, he settles on three skills he wants to develop right now. The technical is a skill proficiency in manipulating the ball, and it boosts the already mastered basic skills like first touch, ball control, and dribbling multiple opponents; it also increases accuracy in passing and shooting. And the most important of all is his body position and movement. The second one was Game-charger as the name implies the Game-changer proficiency is one where a player is more tactical and alters the match's outcome. The key of this skill are tactical flexibility, forward dominance, and speed and agility.

And the last one Winston chose was inspired by how Dumi bent the ball 90 degrees when he was giving Winston instructions on how to kick the ball, and Dumi told him that it was a finesse Shot also known as a knuckle shot. Honestly, Dumi gave Winston a lazy, bored stare. He mocked Winston and told him that the finesse shot is one of the basic shooting techniques that is now a popular one. After being embarrassed, Winston said that he tried to learn the skill, but he couldn't master it even. After watching tutorials, he still couldn't master it. And the way Dumi bent the ball was far too abnormal, it swirled in a wide 90 degrees angle until it chipped inside the goalpost. No matter how many times Dumi tried to teach Winston how to kick the ball, he still couldn't kick the ball in a finesse shot technique.

He is now thrilled about gaining a skill that was previously out of reach. Remembering its matchday, Winston let out a heavy sigh, realizing he couldn't practice those skill moves. He pondered for a while and decided to just activate these systems all at once and he has to use them today.

With the core system opened, Winston leaned against the wall—he closed his eyes—all his hard work came to this. He must now implement his strategy of standing out to get noticed by the senior clubs. He wanted to go back to Westminster F.C. the childhood favorite team and the team Dumi Crowe played for before retiring, and the same team he broke records for. And his father's favorite team, after Winston had been sitting for some time, the assistant coach's actions quickly awoke them all. "Wake up, wake up, prepare yourselves, our match is about to start. We got two hours until the game starts. For those who are in the first eleven, wash up and prepare for some warm-ups."

The entire room became lively, some youths were chatting about the upcoming vacation. Some felt relieved that the game count was low, and others rejoiced at the prospect of going home to their families. Some were talking about catching up on some movies and cartoons and new video game releases. One youth who was stretching himself loudly talked about wanting to break his virginity this three month vacation. And how he has three girls lining up to have sex with him. He even cheerfully fist pump Oswin, but Oswin didn't share his sentiment. Apparently, Atlas told Oswin to focus on his training in the upcoming weeks. He didn't tell him the specifics, but he was firm on what he was saying to Oswin. Oswin took it as Atlas preparing him for senior club scouts, another youth was holding a book that said he was planning to stay home and finish reading his books and catch up with his friends, and another was talking about catching up on the senior season matches he had missed.

Winston also thought about going back home when the season concluded, he had been missing his family so much. Winston walked and sat on the bench with his bibs vest on, the room continued to be lively for about an hour, until the assistant coach tells everyone to warm up, when they came out of the tunnel Winston's teammates were surprised that the stadium was almost packed. And when he glanced over at the other side, the Giant Hawks F.C. were performing drills and the atmosphere was very dense and intense, it was understandable why the atmosphere was dense and intense. The giant hawks were in the middle of the league table, and they were not improving; they had more losses than wins. They desperately wanted to recover from their previous overwhelming loss. At the same time, promising young athletes from the Giant Hawks were eager to showcase their abilities, hoping to improve their chances of being noticed by scouts from senior clubs.

After they were done with the warm-up drills, they went back into the changing room. The head coach asked the entire team to huddle up, and he grabbed his white board "Okay, the formation we are playing with is a one-three-five-two Bolten you will be in front, and Oswin you will be a roaming striker. Use those dribbling skills of yours to cut behind the defense. Bolten, make runs in behind the defensive line. Daveton and Hulton, hold the flanks and support Bolten. Milton and Dirlo, you'll operate as central defensive midfielders. We're aiming for a quick buildup and a high defensive line." Once the head coach had concluded his notes on the whiteboard. The players selected for the first team were instructed by him to put on the club uniform. Winston sat on the bench and waited for his teammate to finish changing.
