Chapter 60 - Chapter 58: The Fragile Line

The peace of the nursery was shattered in a heartbeat. It wasn't a grand explosion or a high-speed chase—it was a simple, wet patch on the marble floor near the stairs and a sudden, sharp cry that echoed through the silent mansion.

Jay-jay had only been reaching for a book on the top shelf, but a momentary dizzy spell—common in her eighth month—caused her footing to slip. She didn't fall down the stairs, but she landed hard on her side, the impact sending a sickening jolt through her body.

"JAY-JAY!"

Keifer was there before she even hit the floor, his face turning a ghostly shade of white. He caught her just as she slumped over, her hand clutching her stomach, her breathing coming in shallow, ragged gasps.

"Keifer... it hurts... something's wrong," she whispered, her voice trembling with a level of fear he had never heard before.

He didn't wait for an ambulance. He didn't call the boys. He scooped her up in his arms, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. Every second felt like an hour.

As he sped toward the hospital, Keifer kept one hand on the steering wheel and the other gripped tightly onto Jay-jay's hand. She was drifting in and out of consciousness, her skin clammy and pale.

"Stay with me, Jay. Focus on my voice," he commanded, though his own voice broke. "The twins... Keira and Jayden... they're waiting for us. You have to stay."

She didn't answer. Her grip on his hand loosened.

The moment they arrived at the emergency entrance, a team of doctors and nurses swarmed them. Keifer refused to let go of her hand until they reached the double doors of the Intensive Care Unit.

"Sir, you can't come in here!" a nurse shouted, blocking his path.

"That is my wife! Those are my children!" Keifer roared, his usual composure completely gone. He looked like a man possessed, his eyes wild with desperation.

"We need to stabilize her and check the fetal heartbeats," the lead doctor said firmly. "She's lost a lot of blood, and the babies are in distress. We need to move now."

The doors swung shut, leaving Keifer standing alone in the sterile, cold hallway. His hands were shaking. He looked down and saw a smear of blood on his white shirt—her blood. The reality hit him like a physical blow: the two most important things in his universe were currently fighting for their lives behind a wall of glass and steel.

Minutes later, the elevator doors screeched open. Section E arrived in a blur of panicked movement. Ci-N was crying openly, Josh was pacing like a caged animal, and David was already on his phone, summoning the best specialists in the country.

Felix walked up to Keifer, who was staring blankly at the ICU doors. He didn't say anything; he just placed a heavy, grounding hand on Keifer's shoulder.

"She's a fighter, Keifer," Felix said quietly. "The Mutya doesn't give up. And neither do the Watsons."

Keifer didn't look up. "It was just a slip, Felix. Just a second. How can everything change in just one second?"

Inside, the monitors began to wail. A "Code Blue" announcement echoed through the speakers. The doctors were running. The situation had gone from serious to critical.

The legacy was d by a thread.
